Default God Bless this Mess lyric change

I think at some point the lyrics of:

Down here there they got your back
And still they're at your side
This treasure chest of rags
That keeps this dream alive

Were changed from

Down here there they got your back
And good men stood at your side
This treasure chest of rags
Still keeps this dream alive

Without stating the obvious and starting something, does anyone's version of the CD have the first block of lyrics? They had to have come from somewhere.

Which one do you mean with "first"? The ones on the top (which my CD has) or the presumedly earlier lyrics on the bottom?

All of the versions I have heard are the first but some of the lyrics I'm seeing online are the second so I'm wondering if any earlier versions of the song have the second batch of lyrics.

Not sure which lyrics you're referring to as "first". The ones that come first in your post (i.e., the top set) or the lyrics you say have been changed (i.e., the bottom set)?

The bottom set of lyrics come from the booklet ppl got at the promo listening parties:

Aha thanks that may be where they originated. I've seen lyrics online that say both and after listening to dozens of times he's saying the first batch. There's just too many syllables for me to be mishearing it, right?

I think I'm having a blonde moment because I don't get what you are saying.

All the booklets have the "good men lyrics" don't they? It was discussed before I think, we all had that lyric but it was sung differently, at least in the promo shows (it was sung as "and still they're at your side")

Anyway, all my CD (European version, bought in the UK) have the good men lyrics

Are you sure? Maybe it's my ears, but my version has the "still at your side" line. (German deluxe edition)

Right, the booklets say "Good men" and every version of the song, Live and studio, on youtube I've seen "they're still at your side". Has anyone seen/heard it with "good men"? What I'm saying is somewhere the line was clearly changed. The London promo show sounds like it has a different set of words completely unless Im really mishearing him slur.

Bitter Wine had alternate lyrics printed as well which stemmed from the electric demo.
In London he might've just been slurring lines. In 2013 at the promo show in Stuttgart we were all desperately trying to figure out what he sang during the second verse of I'm With You. It was just some wrong stuff and had nothing to do with the real wording in that slot.
I assume London was the same case.
