That's literally it's purpose though. Frustrating, sure, but since the dawn of the album single, the track with the most appeal gets put out as the face of it.

People, we're talking about Bon Jovi, BON. FREAKING. JOVI. One of the biggest pop/rock bands of all time. What were you honestly expecting as the first single from a Bon Jovi album.

Question

You know whate bothers me though - do these kind of tracks ever really get radio play anymore? I mean, to my ears, it sounds like something that would have maybe been on the radio 15 years ago. But in 2024? I'm not so sure....

I don't think the previous poster was complaining about it being pop, but rather that it is "half baked". Runaway, Only Lonely, Bad Name, Bad Medicine, Keep the Faith, This Ain't a Love Song, It's My Life, Everyday, HAND, Memory, and We Don't Run do not fit that description even if you don't like those songs.

So, most of Bon Jovi's lead singles are not lazy songs with no life that one may call "half baked". People think pop means it is automatically shit. There are thousands of pop songs that piss all over Bon Jovi's attempts. Being pop is fine, but then do it well.

If you are asking "what were you honestly expecting" then the answer is something better. You say the song with the most appeal is the lead single. If so, the upcoming album is in trouble.

Pop is fine, no one's asking for them to do Livin' On A Prayer again. A good pop song is perfectly fine. But monotonous and half-baked are my complaints. The good chorus melody saves it a bit but the rest is meh. And I just don't see how this song may appeal to anyone outside of Bon Jovi fans.

Asked a few people who don't listen casually to Bon Jovi (except occasionally for their big hits), and they enjoyed

I asked a few people who don't listen casually to Bon Jovi (except occasionally for their big hits), and they hated it. What's your point.

Come on. Trying to paint this as a well-received song is disingenuous. It takes five minutes to browse through enough content to see people are generally down on the song. Nothing wrong at all if you personally like it, but this song will not be drawing a casual crowd.

he can say it sure, and like I said after it was pointed out I do think he meant in comparison to 2020, which wouldn't take much to accomplish. When I hear "a return to feel good Bon Jovi where you want to turn up the volume" I think of New Jersey and he didn't specify in his original statement that it was in comparison to 2020.

I wonder if it was kept vague for that purporse or just for the understanding that the last one was pretty down and serious and topical and this one isn't. Who knows.

speaking of guitar solos, if you haven't already I would urge you to listen to the song Rise by Extreme, Nuno rips it up. just cause you get old, doesn't mean your music has to sound tired and old.
