Which clashes heavily with the whole "spread your wings, dare to dream, life is limitless, we weren't born to follow" themes of before, but I don't see Jon as the kinda guy who would use biting sarcasm to make fun of people who think like that, seeing how he "loves this town" as well and all that shit. It's really quite bizarre. What are the lyrics trying to say?
You're right in fact, it's the part until pre-chorus that's very odd and different vibe than rest of the song. In the rest, I get it, it's the optimistic way of saying it's good, you're good as it is, enjoy it, etc. But first verse is like mocking ambition or will to try to change anything

This song certainly isn't an It's My Life style song of optimism and dreams. I see it as more akin to Prayer, Work For The Workin Man type of song that tries to relate to the everyday person. To me it says you may not have was you always dreamt of, and it may not have been an easy ride, but what you've got ain't so bad. It's a good life with good friends and a good woman, so appreciate it and enjoy what you have.

My only problem with it is the word Legendary. I don't think it really fits with what the song is about and it sounds like it was just inserted into it because it sounds cool...

I agree with this. To me. he verses are coming from the perspective of the superiors. People tell you dont pick up what you can't lift, just get by, we're all the same etc the chorus is saying to look for, find and appreciate love that helps get through the 9-5 work lifestyle.

It resonates hard with me, which may be why the optimism is really grabbing me this time around. I've been working way too hard the last few months and my brown eyed wife is really getting me by.

According to Universal Japan Legendary is first on the radio charts.
I don't speak Japanese and I didn't find the chart, but here's the article: https://www.universal-music.co.jp/bo...ws/2024-03-27/
"This is the first time that Bon Jovi has topped the Western music charts since the release week of their album ``The Circle'' in 2009, and the first time that Bon Jovi has topped the charts in about 14 years." (Google Translate)

Rock music is still big enough on the radio in Japan. They have always love rock acts over there.

That's brilliant.

I've no idea what chart this is either, this sounds like Universal trying to pretend Bon Jovi has a number 1 there. The only chart that matters in Japan is the Oricon chart and Bon Jovi haven't had a hit song on it in a long time.

Their music isn't entirely to blame though, but because Bon Jovi have refused to do promo for their albums in Japan their chart impact has seriously diminished. Japanese people still access their music through TV performance and promo as opposed to radio although streaming and internet radio changed the game there as well.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmci...than-a-decade/

At least record company pays for these articles I guess.
So Legendary is No. 30 on Adult Pop Airplay and No. 18 on Adult Contemporary

EDIT: Also, it's No. 70 in Japan on "Billboard Japan Hot 100". Is that the main one?

https://www.billboard.com/charts/japan-hot-100/

And No. 1 on this (probably the same as already mentioned earlier in thread)

I hate to agree but I do. This is the general perception of who JBJ is now and what the new music represents.

Old, auto tune, don't get the song, outdated.
