C'mon you all wanted angry right? I know I did

What do you make of the lyrics

This house was built on trust
That's what it is, it always was
No wrecking ball could knock it down
This house was built on higher ground

Very unsubtle dig at Richie, among other things I'm sure. This is what I wanted, something more personal (not necessarily addressing the situation with Richie).

It's the same old song, I wasn't expecting anything else for the first single, to be honest. It's their sound whether we like it or not. WDR was also same old formula, albeit angrier/more agressive which is why many of us liked it, but don't say it had awesome lyrics, it was full of the same old clichés Jon is so fond of. These are his trademark lyrics for a single. BB had the most risky songs in 20 years but the singles were pure BJ cheese, so I'm still hoping for the best

I won't rate it until I hear the full album. I like it, but for now it's a 6-7 which is not a bad rating considering all the singles for the past 15 years except MAM have been a 5 or less.

I could live without the HAND riff though. It makes the song sound rockier overall and it's best to rip off their own songs than another artist, but they could be more subtle

I've heard it like 10 times now and I like it even more.

Am I the only one who's singing 'Rich Man Living in a Poor Men's House" over some parts?

I'm loving the "Coming home, I'm coming home"

Jon's voice is OK, too much production as expected but the chorus sounds pretty decent, the backing vocals are more prominent than any recent song I can remember and help make the sound fuller. He would probably never pull it off but it's easier than WDR so it has a chance to sound OK-ish live

It's funny that everyone keeps talking about I'm With You.. But it's actually That's What the Water Made Me that I think is by far the standout track on WAN. Also live.

But maybe that's just me..

For me it captures a positive energy but with a sort of sad/melancholic emotion.. which is new for Bon Jovi.. Like meaning to say: That's what it is, but hey going for it anyway.

Anyway.. that on a side note..

It's as generic and forgettable as anything else on the Circle/What About Now/Burning Bridges, which is honestly really disappointing after all of Jon's talk about integrity and getting back to their roots. I've heard it four or five times now, and all I can remember is that it's lifted the "I'm coming home" melody from We Don't Run/Teardrop and the riff from Atlantic City. It's as bland as bland comes.

It's a 5 at best. Technically nothing wrong with it, but I don't know why anyone would go out of their way to listen to it, either.

The "coming hooooome" bit is the definitely the best part of the song. I like Jon's raspy voice towards the end. Production is terrible. It's a wall of noise (similar to I'm With You). Still, I like it overall.

I give it a 7. We Don't Run is a lot better and I wish that would've been on this album instead of BB.

I'm with you in this one!

Did anybody else noticed that this "coming hooome" melody is already used in these songs? It's not a bad thing, but seems like a "signature" of the last years. Like "nana" in NJ era!
What Do You Got (in outro)
We Don't Run (in intro)
A Teardrop To The Sea (in intro)
Life is Beautiful (in intro)

I wasn't won over after the first listen. The verses plod and need more work and the song draws from so much of their past work from YGLABN to HAND, as well as "This Is Love...". Where it is essentially HAND re-visited, it has what HAND does not... an awesome hook. Plenty of us are going to be belting out "I set each stone and I hammed each nail!" in our cars as we drive over the the last few weeks.

For first singles, which generally haven't done much to get me excited for a new album, it's probably my favorite in well over a decade.
Totally my thoughts!! I give it an 8!!

Might move it up to a 6 as I've given it a few goes in my earphones instead. Sounds good on a walk in the sun, can be a really good summer song if it's picked up by a few stations.
