I was really dissapointed that this is what Jon came up with to represent the album that is supposedly his angriest and most personal in a while. What it is, is simply a water down version of the same old formula. As some of you pointed out already - HAND structure and verses + This Is Love, This Is Life chorus. And off course, the lyrics are the same generic non-personal stuff as always (or as Jon likes to call it, "universal").

I give it a 6. Which in some ways is probably the worst rating possible. At least if it was a 3-4, it would mean that they took a risk and failed. But it would've been more interesting nonetheless. Only positives I can say here is that it's catchy and the guitars are decent. But I never for a second doubted Jon's ability to write a catchy melody.
Spot on!
Not a bad song at all.
But after all the stuff that was going on the last 3,5 years I expected some kind of change, some fresh sound. Especially after Burning Bridges. But it's the same first single we already had the last 10 years.

The lyrics are abysmal. Most of Jon's lyrics have been a bit unsubtle but at least I could relate. These just feel like empty, vacuous cliches. I was expecting so much more given everything that's happened over the last few years.

Bon Jovi's biggest talent used to be that they could write personal songs that anyone could relate to and that worked really well. Now, they're trying to write universal songs that are just empty and forgettable.
I haven't posted in ages so please don't think i'm just popping up to troll, but I share the same sentiments as many on here including the above poster.

Absolutely everything about this is embarrassingly rotten from top to bottom. If you're trying to justify these lyrics by saying "They're personal! It's an analogy about the band!" then do yourself a favour and spend your time finding another artist to listen to.

I know the guy has been trying to repeat the LOAP formula since Born To Be My Baby, It's My Life, Everyday etc etc etc but how anyone can bear to listen to line after line of the most embarrassingly turgid cliches is beyond me. How can the guy who wrote the Blaze soundtrack and These Days be happy with putting stuff like this out in his FIFTIES?! It's unlistenable.

Combine it with the video and it is literally a pastiche of when they did this stuff better and were young enough to get away with it 10-15 years ago. The corny faces, faux-sincerity and Jon's one rock-move left: the open-palmed hand raise.

I actually quite liked a lot of the stuff on BB and thought he pushed himself a bit, tried some different things, but this is barely 1/10 for me.

How anyone would choose to listen to this drivel when people like Dylan, Springsteen and Ryan Adams exist is beyond me.

The song sticks in your head (I really like the "COMING HOME!" part) but it doesn't excite me all that much. I usually prefer the album cuts anyway because they can be more experimental.

This way of thinking baffles me. Why eat cake when panko crusted salmon exists? Why watch Anchorman, Citizen Kane was made! Everything can't be Dylan and held up as perfection. The song is with its faults and cliche ridden but that's what Bon Jovi singles always have been. Always. Hell, INCLUDING Always. So I don't know what people were expecting for the lead off single from an album.

It's pure filler to me and if it represents a lead single then therein lies the worry. This is a song we will be expected to pay handsomely to see live and not much about it screams being worthy of a spot on a concert setlist.

The lyrical content isn't that strong. It's extremely lazy when you look back over and compare to the TD tracks.

If I've grown up then why am I being given dumbed down songs.

I don't blame people for expecting THINFS to be the next TD, NJ, or SWW. But relative to post-2000s Jovi, it's a pretty good track. I mean, yeah, the guitars are finally back from six feet under, there's a bit of edge in there. In fact, I did expect it to be just as hard-hitting as HAND, though this wasn't (slightly), plus I was expecting more from the already good outro.

Some of the lyrics are really painful to hear. Chorus works great though. Also, contrary to what some are saying, it's entirely possible for Jon to pull off those raspy bits at the end if he tries hard enough. I'll be more than welcome to point you at a certain Always rendition. 7/10.

The singles are supposed to appeal to the masses so the guitar and all the other shit people complain about, aren't what the masses care about in 2016.. That's what the album tracks are for...

They want simple consistent radio friendly music... And because of that, I give it an 8 out of 10...

I absolutely do. If you go into this expecting them to sound like it's 1995 you being disappointed is confusing.

Exactly. I'm coming off months of being on a huge David Bowie kick, but I don't come to Bon Jovi expecting that level of artistry. It's a different gear that is largely anthemic and/or emotional.

It also lacks that warm 90s guitar sound. I wonder why that could be.
