I still say quality comes down to taste. For you, TD, has superior lyrics to Bounce, for me Bounce has quality lyrical content simply based on because I like them. Isn't the the defining characteristic of "quality lyrics" come down to whether the listener likes the song?

No there is an actual difference between quality and taste and it works everywhere.

Porsche & Fiat

You may prefer the fiat because it's more your taste but no matter what, the porsche has a better quality (depends on type)

You may prefer Fulham because it's your team but no matter what, Chelsea has the better quality

You may prefer Backstreet Boys first album because it's your taste but no matter what, Thriller of Michael Jackson has the better quality

You may prefer Jon's voice because it's your tase but no matter what, Pavarotti's voice has the better quality

You may prefer Bounce because its your taste but no matter what, These days has the better arrangement & lyrice, hence quality

I prefer Slipper When Wet over New Jersey but damn sure that New Jersey is a better quality album

I really like your way of thinking and writing .... it's very interesting ...

there is of course a difference betwen taste and quality

there is also a difference between quality and popularity and success ...sometimes (often) it's safer and easier to put out a cd with a very low level of quality but some attractive catchy points .. the success is then almost guaranty without implying quality ... (but it is another story)

Rembrandt vs Van Gogh
Beatles vs Stones
KTF vs TD
Abbey Road vs Sgt Pepper
A Night At The Opera vs Dark Side Of The Moon
...
sure, TD is a better album than Bounce, but it ain't quality, just taste.

Well I dissagree.

Beatles vs Stones, I prefer stones, Beatles were better in terms of quality.

It is only logic you know, taste and quality are a whole different thing

Instead of writing some big argument, I think I'll go another route. Explain to me why you think New Jersey is a better quality album. And nobody answer for him. I want his answer.

When you are talking music there is no such thing as quality, unless you refer to the quality of the actual audio, which I'm sure you don't mean. Anything about music is down to personal taste. One person may love an album and another hate it. You cannot claim one is better 'quality' than another because that is just your personal opinion, your taste.

I think that in matter of art quality is probably associated with creativity originality and complexity including technicityas well as authenticity ... I had a neighbour who was a jazz saxophonist he used to laugh at my musical taste saying it was just so primal it couldn't be as "good quality" as John Coltrane .then yes enter what is called taste and what is called ordinary and extraordinary .... not everyone has the same taste but even if it's not ok to ttalk about quality for music everyone can understand what was meant here ...
