Your exactly right, its about fulfillment, and songwriting is a way for him to express himself, and after 30 years in music and writing, he has earned the right to write songs that gives him personal fulfillment and satisfaction, its in a way therapy for him.

Back on topic:

The Hand You Hold was added to Ascap with the writers:

JBJ
Dominic Miller (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominic_Miller I assume)
Paul Thorn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Thorn) "Paul Wayne Thorn (born July 13, 1964) is an Americana singer-songwriter[1] whose style is a mix of blues, gospel, and rock music.[2]" I like the sound of that.

EDIT: Nevermind, I already said it got added weeks ago. Did I list the writers then? MAYBE MAYBE NOT.

If his body is shot, I find it hard to believe it is through being on stage. He is not a pro athlete, a soldier, or construction worker. He has spent 30 years occasionally jumping and running for three hours for 100 days a year, spending the rest in St. Barts, in the studio, or at whatever other relaxing thing he is doing.

His legs are gone? Quite possibly, but through genetics and exercise more than from being on stage, surely.

It all comes down to one thing for me anyway. If his voice is gone, his legs or gone, or he just plain cannot be bothered, why not stop touring. We can be pedantic about his exact meaning, but his performances over the last four years suggest that yes, he does indeed hate being on stage.

You can have a shit voice and look interested, you can be a virtual cabbage (Ozzy Osbourne for example) and look interested.

Really? Are you aware of the performances Jon used to give throughout the 80's / 90's / and early '00... Did you ever see the Lay Your Hands On Me video?

He might make it look effortless but it's not and that could break your legs (knees) down after a while...

Most soldiers do it for 4 years from 18 to 21, not 30 plus years from 18 to 55

I think we also forget that Jon takes care of himself physically. Now I know some here would say, oh not his voice, haha, but he does exercise, u sometimes see him go jogging or go to the gym, he probably is healthy eater, and if u go on tour, u have to be in good shape, I think u need a lot of stamina to be on stage for 2 plus hours a night, and when Jon and the band have a break in between tours, he goes on a vacay and relaxes. I think this is the reason he has lasted all these years being able to go and tour, at least physically.

Jon is not that old. I think the problem is not your leg. The problem is his voice, and attitude.

Guns N Roses 2016

U2 2014

Metallica 2015

Aerosmith 2015

The Boss 2016

When Jon sings live, not seems a singer. He seems an ordinary person in a karaoke.

Most soldiers do what? A lot more than running and jumping singing Lay You Hands on Me I reckon. A lot more physical activity for certain, and over a shorter time maybe, but I would wager the entire amount of physical activity Jon has put into being on stage over thirty years is not far off what a soldier may do over half a decade.

Look, I know construction workers and others in physically demanding jobs have a toll on their bodies, so perhaps Jon is genetically made up to have shit knees. To me though, being 53(?) is not excuse for being physically unable to perform with enthusiasm, there are others older who do.

I don't believe Jon's jumping and running on stage equates, otherwise my wife's aerobics instructor would be ****ed up.

A lot of time Springsteen is just behind his mic for example, but he conveys passion in a way Jon cannot ... Jon stands behind his mic with no emotion, reading a screen, and every so often selling something that fans generally lap up. That has nothing to do with his body.

Yes Jon does have shitty genetics for his knees, I personally know people who've done a lot of physical exercise and have no problem whatsoever with their knees althought they are in their 60s and 70s, and I also know a person, my grandma from my father's side, who was a cook almost her whole life and has very bad knee problems.

If his knee really bothers him so much and he really wants to perform then he should really stop trying to run around the stage because it will only make his situation worse and he should also STOP JOGGING ON ASPHALT/CONCRETE and try softer surfaces.

He hasn't looked after his voice. The smoking and abuse of his voice earlier in his career didn't help. I'll never understand why a vocalist doesn't protect the most important instrument.
