I know it sounds stupid but having always rented, never bought or built my own home I can't empathize in what the songs about (if its about having your own home). I also looked at it in a sort of hometown pride way:

"Outside the sky is coal black, the streets are on fire
The picture window is cracked and there's nowhere to run
I know, I know
This house is not for sale"

That says to me even though this neighbourhood is shit I'm still sticking here cos I love this town .

But I don't really empathize with that either cos I moved 200 miles away from where I was born and I'm happy living elsewhere!

Maybe its just one I'm not going to get a feel for!
Hi matrix15!
Of course there's as many interpretations as listeners, so I'm just telling you how I take it.
It isn't about the house. It's more about something you've "built". Your family, career or simply your life. It's all part of you and defines who you are. There's no plan to throw it all away because of things you can't influence. Kind of the world is burning but you're still who you are and you don't want to change.
Well, I hope I chose the right words to explain my thoughts about it.

Just me who loves the slight rasp at the end to Jon's vocals during the outro?

Hoping that's a teaser of the vocals we will get on the rest of the album.

I really dig the new track. The main riff is dangerously close to Have a Nice Day though, especially as it starts the song and is played solely after the chorus.

I like it very much. Don't get why people are bashing the production? I find the guitars being very highlighted and actually think they sounds pretty raw. Sent the link to a friend whose a working engineer. He likes Bon Jovi, thought not even close to my fandom. He said he was suprised that Jon sounded so good on this recording. Unlike the previous releases he doesn't sound as doctored as before.

The bridge before the solo is a completely waste of time though, doesn't really add anything to the song. They could have banged out the solo right away to make the song flow better. Will be interesting to hear this live, sounds to me like it could be a potential live opener?

The "house" is a metaphor for the band. Lyric wise, it is VERY similar to The Scorpions' We Built This House

Default yeah...

Catchy but if i heard it accidentally without knowing its the new leading single my guess would have been that its a Have a nice day b-side track. John Shanks; Please God let it be the last album with him.

Agreed. I definitely went down the figurative road for the lyrics upon even the first teasers as I don't own a house and never will lol!
