It makes me wonder if he could have been recording with someone else when that picture was taken, since he's a session musician. I get the impression he works with lots of different artists as well as BJ. Plus, around a month ago, didn't Jon say (again) that the record was finished?
Of course, as you said, it could be a rehearsal situation; not necessarily recording.

He's teasing and not right out saying it but the only situation that he's used the talk box is with Bon Jovi, hence his comment "well if there's a talk box". And his caption on the other pic "well if there's a dual keyboard set up", and that's basically David's live set up so it's leaning more and more to rehearsal time!
