I think Jon knows very well how he could make a large profit of the vaults but doesn't want to because his vocals get worse with every tour, apart from the step forward from the HAND to the LH tour. Even during the Bounce tour there were plenty of performances of Sat. Night and Keep The Faith of which it's a real shame they were never released as possible b-sides.
Considering how there's a huge archive you'd think it was all sorted by tour, show, tracklist etcetera but this isn't true. There's bits and pieces stored here, there's some over there and there's no one who looks into the archive and treats it with the respect it's supposed to get and sorts it all like it's supposed to be sorted. I know McCartney about a year ago started to look into his own archives and is in the long process of setting up direct (limited) access to his vault.
Obie got the chance to really dig into the archives for the extra tracks on the special editions back in 2010 but all he could come up with was stuff that had already been mixed anyway. I'm sure there's plenty of unmixed masters from every show (as in seperate Richie / Tico tracks) but to put it all back together to one decent sounding thing is another.
There are plenty of bootleg collectors who'd love to just sit in the archives for a year or so and do it for free but Jon doesn't like looking back so we'll never get to hear any of it. Even the songs on One Wild Night were finished mixes, there was nothing on there that was put together from the archives, which is a real shame and a missed opportunity.
Salaam Aleikum,
