I'm really not sure I get why. I'm just more so disappointed that Jon covered such a terrible song to begin with. It sounds like something I'd hear on Saint Patrick's Day, not Christmas...

I was more hoping for Jingle Bells Dean Martin style.

Fogerty has been one of the top live acts for 50 years.
He has lost a bit of voice in the last couple of years but he is 75 years old.
Anyone who has seen him live will deny your statement.
Yeah, but J. Forgerty voice is a shadow of what he was, and yet he carries on, like Bob Dylan. Why does Jon have to retire?

I want the guy to do what he does forever, and not make the decision to retire because some wayward fans not enjoy the same way they could 10 years ago. I think the same about Richie.

I still think that the best version of Bon Jovi is with Richie Sambora on board, but damn, since then we had 3 albums (BB, THINFS, 2020) with some great songs. I never thought I would say this, but Bon Jovi can go on to infinity and beyond, because we don't know what a great song could be the next one to discover on his next record.

When they announced Jon was singing Faily Tail, I went over and listened to the original. I though it was so terrible, I couldn't even get through it... I then listened to the Ed Sheridan version... Thought that was equally as terrible and couldn't get through that... I figured I'd just wait for Jon's version.

After around 5 listens, I kinda just accepted it as an Irish song and had no real Christmas connection to it... It like saying Levon is a Christmas song because the lyric has "Christmas Day" in it...

The only part I like is when Jon sings "i could have been someone and so could anyone"

I was and still am impartial to it. It works well as a trio with the other two songs. If Jon released it by itself, I'd probably keep it as a bonus 2020 songs and not even add it to my Christmas collection.

Huh? It's asolutely nothing like that. Christmas is referenced throughout the song.

"It was Christmas Eve babe In the drunk tank"

"So happy Christmas, I love you baby"

"When you first took my hand On a cold Christmas Eve"

"Happy Christmas your arse I pray God it's our last"

"And the bells were ringing out For Christmas day" (at the end of every chorus)

That's a lot of of Christmas mentions for a song with "no real Christmas connection to it"

I think what you mean is that you have no real Christmas connection to it, as you didn't know the song before.

I most definitely missed the point of the original since I have no connection at all with Ireland, The Pogues or that song.
But I got working ears and can tell if a musical perfromance is alright or not. And the one by The Pogues is terrible. And Jon's isn't any worse (which doesn't mean it's any good either, but that's another discussion...).

I can accept if people say the song's an Irish sanctuary, an Irish anthem and that it's one of those songs you don't cover.
But it's ridiculous if people criticize that cover because of Jon's singing. That's where the irony is hidden, not in my post, my friend ;- )

The fact that they used a lyric such as "Drunk Tank" in a Christmas song just proves how poorly written this song truly is... Thanks for pointing that out

Wow. You're clearly missing the point of this song. Maybe you can't really appreciate it without being British or Irish. Christmas isn't about religion, snow and presents for everyone. You don't get it, fair enough. But it's 100% a Christmas song.

Most people are not critsizing it for the singing. It's fine from that point of view. It's all about the delivery. Jon's completely lacks all of the charisma of the original and the song just doesn't work without being a duet.

The fact that you haven't heard it before is baffling. Is it not played where you live ?

Its most certainly both an Irish song and a Christmas song, I'm not sure why you think its not a Christmas song. Is it because it isn't a light and fluffy commercial song ?

Jon's version is vocally poor, the instrumental work is lacking and change of lyrics tops the awfulness off.

Pretty Much! Christmas songs usually do have that light and fluffy staple to them. It's what makes them Christmas songs.

That Porgues band should be honored that a legendary band gave their song some publicity instead of being so bitchy about it.
