It tanked as even the die hards and those who love everything Jon does didnt actually buy a copy of the album. If a fraction of those who bought tickets on the last tour purchased it then 2020 would have been a hit. For whatever reason, most chose not to.

A lot of people don't know the band is still together. Some people dropped off for Lost Highway. Some people were lost during Crush, that's the nature of promo. People are using social media more but I'm not looking up band I used to like 15 years ago, you know? That's the point of marketing campaigns. High profile appearances, live performances.
Hell, if a fraction of the people that see the band live bought the album after the show every album past The Circle would have sold better but they all tanked. Most chose not to for whatever reason.
None of what I listed above have to do with the quality of 2020. Labels and distributers warned artists not to put out albums during the pandemic because unless you already had a MASSIVE following (of which the band does not) how are you going to get out there and promote it other than online? I guess I just disagree with the notion that the pandemic had little to do with how current albums are selling for older bands with a dwindling fan base.
