Personally, I’ve never regarded unaltered set lists as a major problem. I saw Bon Jovi twice on the New Jersey tour. The first time was on the first European leg and the latter one was on the rebound a year later.

In 1988, the band was on fire from start to finish. There’s no denying. We got 18 songs if I remember correctly, ending with Boys Are Back In Town.

In 1989, the band was evidently somewhat exhausted from neverending touring, as later admitted on various interviews and documentaries.
There was almost no interaction between Jon & Richie anymore to be seen and Jon was clearly more static in his movements. We got only 14 songs of which 2 were performed acoustically. So there were only 12 songs with the full band. Towards the end of the set, we got 3 songs that hadn’t been performed the previous year (Love For Sale, NSG and LIS which was a current single).

It was the shortest Bon Jovi concert I’ve ever witnessed. The energy level was probably 2/3 of the previous year. Less rockers, more ballads.

Nevertheless, even with all the above mentioned shortcomings, the second leg show in 1989 was and still is my ultimate Bon Jovi concert experience. They were world weary and tired but still on the absolute top of their game. That’s the best of Jon I’ve ever seen.

So it all comes down to performance quality, if you ask me.

That is my favorite Undivided live; but... but... but... why they post something that we already watched??

Agree but in 1988/89 Bon Jovi had nearly all killer tracks. The mediocrity and bland hadn't arrived yet. This continued until These Days and after that they had a lot more crappier songs to chose from.

Thought it was kind of cool to see the behind the scenes footage of the gig. Not overly psyched with this video release but not the total dud I thought it'd be.

About the current upload: In all honesty, I have a fan-made bootleg DVD of Times Square that features exactly these broadcasts in exactly that picture quality (BS 1 footage of the Japanese broadcast for the songs, plus the NBC Backstage footage). That one was widely accessible on the web about a decade back. I had imagined them having proper archive material would result in much better quality footage. This looks like some fan had taped the show onto VHS and later on copied that to DVD. You even see the NBC logo along with the timestamp of the TV airing in the bottom right corner.

I can’t believe more fans aren’t kicking up a fuss about how crap this has been. They made a big deal about doing it theirselves and the vaults are open and they’ve given fans nothing decent or ultra rare.

Another area where Jon fails compared to other artists. Plenty of legacy acts have opened their vaults, given rare stuff, etc. Many don't turn their back on the past and instead properly celebrate previous successes with the fans. Jon? Nope, and I don't understand why he is so ashamed of the past or unwilling to embrace it. Surely he isn't still on the "relevant today" kick?

It's so embarassing that he thinks he has become a voice for the people but I wouldn't care if he would also deliver a good product. We don't get that any more, whether it's the music or anything related to the band.

EDIT: Just checked and it's from the DVD where a friend compiled all available footage of the show back in 2010 I think. I compared the screens which made me realize that the official upscaled upload is a bit softer around the edges, something you usually get when uploading VHS sources to Youtube. So then I went to Youtube and - I'm almost certain both used sources were just ripped form there.

For anyone who wants to watch the uninterrupted videos:
http://www.youtube.com/v/dqqsLP3-V_8
(even including the blinking VCR "Play" signal at the start)

http://www.youtube.com/v/XoYVFBKY6_A
(the Japanese BS1 footage was very heavy on the black areas which had made me suspicious in the first place)

So now I'm paying for Youtube rips...
