I can only imagine what Shanks is doing to the vocals, since I'm able to produce crystal clear vocals with a 30 EUR microphone and a laptop with a DAW. So there must be some serious processing going on for Jon to sound the way he does, for better or worse. For example on THINFS it's almost (no, I'm certain) like the rasp is being simulated by distorting his voice (makign it too loud and let it clip or something like that). It's the first record where on different speakers and volume levels, the vocals sound either pretty good or totally doctored with. That was the case to some degree with WAN as well, but not as noticeable...

THINFS as an album has songs that you can tell a rasp was added. Born Again Tomorrow, God Bless this Mess and few others just sound....different then some of the other tracks that sound a bit more natural. We Don't Run is VERY guilty of it but yeah it started with HAND. Agreed that his voice wasn't in rough enough shape in 2002. It was declining from the previous era but when he did the Bounce songs live it didn't sound like a completely different style of singing.

I'm thinking of throwing it right in the trash. They just can't do anything right. They are promoting 2 new songs to support the tour, you buy tickets for the tour, and the CD they send you doesn't have the songs they are promoting. WTF

I might need a Bon Jovi break for a while.
