Erm..... you two both realize that take is pure fantasy? No one weaseled their way in. Jon wants them there.

I was resistant back when Richie first left during the WAN tour. It felt like a gaping hole with Richie gone and some stranger in his place. Now that the new version of the band has settled in, I'm quite happy with the line-up. Everett and John change the dynamic and present a band that has evolved that doesn't try to mimic the old band by just replacing one guy. There is a new dynamic in place.

You two are basically stuck in the past, unable to accept anything but the original incarnation of the band and that's ok. Going after the new members is like the jealous girlfriend who goes after the girl instead of the man cheating on her.

So you think since shanks and Everett joined the band, BJ actually has evolved into something better? Richie was one person but he gave this band so much when he was actively involved. Now we have a whole orchestra on stage and neither music nor shows became a new KPF. Just the same thing recycled for years. If that's evolution, then I can't see it, sorry. For me it's staying in the comfort zone, which lost its refreshing effect long ago. We all get older but come on...

On stage the only addition is Everett and he is definitely needed to cover for Jon's voice... Shanks replaces Bobby and Phil replaces Richie.

Shanks has all the stage presence of a deep fried mars bar but he's a better fit as a guitarist than Bobby was and to say he 'weaseled' his way in is hardly true - like it or not he's been the second (or third) most instrumental person in the evolution of the band in the last decade and a half, Richie might have been above him before he left but I doubt it. I don't like him but he didn't weasel anywhere, in the bosses eyes I don't doubt that he's earned his place.

And Richie left. He doesn't want to be there so I don't see what's wrong with appreciating what the band decided to do without him.

Captain, can you see any appreciation threads/posts here? It's only comparing the present-day band to its glory days, commenting on whether Jon's voice improved enough to be listenable or not, and whether another song will be as lazily produced as the previous one or maybe there will be a miracle and the band could fit its rock genre again.

I do see the appreciation, yeah! My opinion was more on the discussion of do Everett and Shanks actually make the band better which I think is such a moot point. You just can't replace someone like Richie (when he wasn't on auto pilot) but at the same time you can't damn the band for trying to move on if he doesn't want to be there.

He obviously wasn't happy with the direction the band was taking and you can't damn Richie for leaving the organisation that the band ultimately became. Did they really move on? It's basically just continuing with the same policy. It's not growth or evolution, it's basically relying on their legacy so that the fans would accept everything just because they used to be the kings of the world. Are they able to produce memorable songs anymore or just recycle the old hits, throwing some rarities once in a blue moon? The problem is whether Rich is in or out of the band doesn't change anything because it's up to Jon where the band is going. And for him it seems his creative outlet is not music but merchandising, promoting his wine and some political appearances/sports events. Since he's still selling out venues, he won't change a thing. I was actually hoping that the reunion at the Induction ceremony would break the ice and make everything work again but it's just an illusion. Three weeks till the big day and no news that the guys even met to rehearse. All those sentimental songs about coming home and being together is just good timing and nothing else. I'm not saying Jon is entirely manipulating the masses bc I do think the bond and brotherhood within the band was genuine but I'm a realist. Now I'm counting the days till the RHOF and I'm full of anticipation how they'll act around one another.

They are not going to share anything before the R&R Hall Of Fame, as it ruins the build up to the actual ceremony and seeing them together again.

It will be all hugs and smiles in front of the cameras I'm sure. What would be more interesting would be to be a fly on the wall in private meetings and see how they interact. We will never get to see any of that though, obviously...

Exactly. The rehearsals would be priceless.

Jon: Your playing sucks as bad as it did 25 years ago!
Alec: At least it hasn't changed, unlike your voice!
