Default New Podcast w/ John Shanks

Probably not gonna interest many people but figured I should share for anyone that does care. Found it kind of funny when at 15:20 he talks about getting the stink eye from Jon

I haven't got the stomach to watch this, and I may have this out of context, but I saw the quote "I'm part of Bon Jovi's legacy"....honestly, what a tool. If you have to go around telling people that, then you are not really that much part of the legacy, outside of your own mind. To me the legacy is Jon, Richie, Tico, Dave, Alec and Hugh - and the RnR Hall Of Fame agrees. I didn't see Jon fighting to get Shanks inducted like he did for Hugh.

Yeah I got the same feeling, watched a small part, only thing I wanted to do is to punch him in the face.

Shanks rubs me the wrong way because I sense an air of self-importance about him. It may be my blind bias but like he thinks he won a battle against Richie and and is now more important to him. Him having a legacy with Bon Jovi is not the issue, the problem is what he thinks that legacy is and means.

He is a part of the legacy. It does not need to be positive. For him it is, for you not. I mean, bury your head in the sand and ignore he has produced half of the band's albums if you want, but he is not incorrect to declare himself a part of the legacy. I agree that it sucks, but it is what it is.

By the way, add me to the list of those not watching this.

Personally the thought of knocking an interview I have no intention of watching is incredibly silly SO I'm going to attempt to watch it all (probably in smaller chunks and update here with any facts new to me.

- He was asked to join the band AFTER the promo tour for This House, it was in the dressing room for Ellen JBJ said the job is his if he wants it

I get that, but you are missing the point. I'm not trying to say that he hasn't worked a lot with the band. Just the fact that Shanks has to say out loud that he is part of the bands legacy says it all. I don't recall Richie, Tico, David or Hugh ever saying that. Why? Because they don't need to. He is the band's producer and a hired gun guitar player, nothing more. Producing various bands will be his legacy, not being part of Bon Jovi's legacy...

In the context of what JS is saying it stemmed from looking at the setlist while playing an arena tour and counting how many songs he was involved with. In that context, the one completely about the conversation, is that wrong?

Devil's advocate, I don't think he's wrong. Hit wise, its way off base. Time spent with the band, and we're hitting 20 years now (in my opinion with nothing culturally relevant since Who Says) his role is part of the band's legacy.

The title of the video is pretty clickbaity but the people who aren't watching it having the biggest issue is surprising.

He is right, he is part of Bon Jovi´s legacy
He is the one that destroyed the band.

watched it...

ITs a bit weird he downplays his bj connection and always focus more on other bands he produced which may be cooler...i mean after all these albums i guess he d mention more stories...

he talked about my first guitar, jbj was was going for a stones vibe but shanks(!!!) conviced him to go to a who, more dramatic approach...

Imho John Shanks is Not a good producer.he may be a good friend to jon by now but thats another thing. Being a yes man and playing a big role into destroying a band, pushing away a key member in order to be on that stage is totaly wrong. even in the doc shanks had a weird smile while he talked about Richie...unfortunately he made albums easier for them and was there for jon with his vocal issues but he was also the excuse for the band to become jons solo project and make Richie fully replacable...

it all comes to respect in the end..would he played Eddie's missing parts or Linsday buckinghams? Jon opened the door and he happily entered..

You mean for tours where they were promoting the albums that he was part of it. Add to that the songs like Lost Highway, Whole Lot Of Leavin', etc that nobody cares about...Again, it's just his way of stroking his ego and his self-importance....

Doc McGhee was FAR more important to the bands legacy than Shanks, in my opinion, but I'm sure he wouldn't go around claiming to be part of it. Why would he? It would make him look silly....

I did say in my original post that the quote could have been taken out of context....
Although nothing I've read leads me to believe that it was...
