The quote above is not as far out off the mark as the guy probably intended it to be and he's also right that the public were never supposed to be looking that deep into the tracks as this. Im not saying its in every track but its in a lot more than you would first believe on the KTF album and on In these arms its especially evident if you know exactly what your listening for. Reason-Bob Rock, this guy is legendary in the trade for his use of talk box and filter effects at this time. It started when he was working with Motley Crue and carried through to Metallica then passed on to Bon Jovi. Basically back in that era it was not uncommon for cars to have real crappy speaker systems and people to listen on little mono grot box radio's with 4inch speakers at home or work. The Bob Rock records of the day are famous for having a huge low end bass sound that made them sonically superior to other producers work at that time (no secret there I suppose). But to make that Bass cut through on to these crappy systems that people could be listening on Bob had a technique where the bass lines would be layered with guitar using a filter effect (at the time mostly a talk box) mixed so low its almost inaudible but letting those frequency spikes come through which give super low bass definition. Best way of describing it is sprinkling a kind of harmonic glitter over the bass and your not supposed to hear it as "there's that talk box thing again". All I can say is if you heard a lot of those tracks with all the Talk box tracks muted I know most of you here would be very shocked at what that technique was adding to a track particularly In these Arms as its all over the guitar as well, supremely mixed in by the masters!(back to my theory it was originally intended to be much more prominent in this track as a lead instrument but they changed it for fear of sounding to much like LOAP). Sorry if you don't agree but just enjoy it anyway for what it is because since that era bands and producers to save time and money are using variations of this sort of stuff by using digitally generated distortion and extreme digital high end frequency boosts which obviously don't have what Bob rock saw as great about the talk box - A human feel.
For those interested discuss...
Thanks for your explanation! I love reading such things from people who understand it because I don't.
What I meant with my note was that I don't go that deep into every song to find talkbox or whatever else. So there might be other songs with it and I wouldn't notice if you didn't tell me. I still can't count it as one of the "talkbox" songs as LOAP, IML, IWBL etc etc are. Not even in the sort of Complicated (is it there?), Everyday or All I Want Is Everything..

I'm looking forward to Rich's album. It really looks like we will hear it once (soon)

It's in Complicated. I agree. There are songs that I refer to as "talk box songs" instantly and ITA ain't one of them.

Someone asked Luke Ebbin on twitter:
@Lukeebbin Any idea on when we can expect Richie's Solo Album?
Answer: "hopefully spring. Stay tuned..."

I never had any doubt he'd get around to it, my only concern was/is it's pending quality

From BJ Facebook page :

Greetings to all. Happy 2012! I hope everyone had a fine holiday and that you're all ready for what we hope will be an exciting 2012. Since we spoke last I've been informed that over 15 million Bon Jovi followers are out there monitoring our activities. Thanks. Considering we're not actively touring and don't have a record out that is amazing. The Circle Tour was beyond our wildest dreams. 4 million of you saw the tour and made us the biggest tour on the planet in 2010 and #2 in 2011... it's only fair we let some of the other bands have some of your attention in 2012 but don't worry, we are writing up a storm and have a really good record coming together. Richie and the guys are all happy and healthy. At least that's what they tell me... Thanks for the posts regarding my blogged demise. As I write this I am very much alive but I died online December 19th, 2011 and it was a wild 60 minutes. Fortunately my family was all together when the calls came in and we quickly dispelled the rumors. Besides all the well wishes 'dying' is soooo overrated. We all have so much to live for so make the best of each day. In 2012, I look forward to the Soul Kitchen helping those who in these difficult financial times need help from their neighbors. Remember, a helping hand up is not a hand out. Empowering your neighbor is not entitling them. You'd be surprised how many people today are either in need or on the verge of economic assistance. WE have the power to make a difference. Find something or someone that moves you... you can make a difference and I promise it will make you and that neighbor in need feel something magical. Don't fall into the negative. Don't assume the press or those in the media know better or know more. Follow YOU. Partisanship, is just ignorance in disguise. Ok, enough of my thoughts. It's time to go to work. I'll fill you in on any one off shows like Bamboozle in Asbury Park as the dates come together. Until then root for your favorite team, who ever that may be and look out for your favorite band, we know who that should be. See you round... JBJ

I read that as mentioning a band record, not Richie's solo album. From Richie's interviews it sounds like he's working on both, which is good news.

Cool, thanks! Does that mean Takumi will be playing on that album ?

I'm really looking forward to this. I hope it will have some have some good bluesy guitar work on it.
