I genuinely like living alone, I think the rest are very average, especially given how little material Richie has produced recently. I expected more.

Any tampering post-hoc,even if same mixing team is doing it, is probably going to go in not-optimal direction.

BTW I'm not implying it's not Rock's fault also. I love his work 30 years ago, it doesn't mean anything for his contemporary work
Bob and Richie have been in and out of the studio together several times over the past years, so there are many many sessions there. These are all Bob Rock produced tunes, but yes they could have been remixed, but I doubt it.

I' genuinely suprised that some people don't like 'I Pray'. I think it's a really strong song, along with 'Living Alone'. I can take or leave 'Songs That Wrote', and strugging with 'Believe'....

For me “I Pray” and “Believe (In Miracles)” are the best till now.

This is a good point. Richie was telling us he has been writing the best songs of his career and stuff like Jon would be stupid not to use his songs. I am not hating the new tracks, like some could leave others, but they are not the outstanding quality Richie was promising. Is he holding the best back, if so why, or was it just classic PR crap?

Quality is subjective. None of the songs are utter trash. Most people like them, some like me love at least 2-3/4. All of the songs are high in emotional quotient, and when you write/produce heartfelt music, you tend to value it highly irrespective of what listeners might feel. Maybe Richie's coming from that perspective. Just like Jon feels he's not a nostalgia act & his best days are ahead of him/"this is the best record we can make " etc. You have to be a bit deluded to create art. Even crappy art.

Piggy backing of the topic in the other thread, has anyone heard any of Richie's new songs on the radio? I know they won't get much mainstream traction, but maybe on rock stations.

No - You won't get on radio, even the rock stations, without a radio plugger. As far as I can see there was not push at radio for these songs. No label would mean Richie's team would have to hire a plugger directly. He did say he wasn't concerned about getting on radio etc this time, so I guess it was an expense he decided against. Which is probably fair enough, as there's not guarenetee of success. It could be throwing money away.

It is a shame the songs will not be heard outside of the core fanbase. I know casuals who didn't even know Richie had songs out.

A part of me wishes the new Richie songs were Bon Jovi songs. I think there is a lot of potential there, even with the tracks I don't like.
