Totally. "Pain where once there was a heart" has been in Richie's ASCAP catalogue for easily a few decades which explains a lot when you listen to it, eh?

I concur with you. I have always believed that Richie’s lyrics are more personal and delve into aspects beyond commercial appeal. However, I must admit that I am not well-versed in copyright matters and related issues. I hope Richie releases a new album soon.
