He knows music production and has a good ear for easy going ‘pop-rock junk’ as Jon once said. 2020 guitaring? There’s nothing special; Phil’s solo is interesting but repetitive already (remember his ‘Samboring’ comments?); Shanks is mehh (have to skip the CCR rip-off every time due to that wasted solo).
It also makes you think how and who exactly got Richie playing Noel Gallagher complexity solos from 2000 onwards; probably Jon’s idea then backed up by John when he came into the band.
20 years wasted of one of the world’s most talented guitarists: Stevie was always Stevie; Van Halen, Gary, Brian and loads more. Richie was wasted (no pun intended) after These Days. He is far superior technically and feeling wise than Slash let’s say, but hasn’t written a few decent songs since Aftermath and a decent album since Undiscovered Soul... such a waste.
Ok, rant over 😹

I get it but you're saying Jon held Richie back from playing the way should and also Richie hasn't released a good album since US? How is it both? I've never gotten the mentality that the world needs Richie in the band so they can soar but also mostly ignore his solo outputs. It may be a case of they're better together than apart?
