Am I the only one who felt that Jon was more comfortable singing Luv Can than Blood In The Water?

Phil X look bored as hell on both songs.

I can't understand call someone to fill up a keyboard position and he plays acoustic guitar on half of the songs having 2 professional guitar players in the band.
Phil looked bored as hell on the two songs but that being said, I get why Greg was on acoustic. On Shine Shanks took the lead sparkly parts, Phil did the electric backing that beefed it up from second chorus onward. Having someone on acoustic frees up the other two to play the electric parts. Ditto for him handling the mandolin on Lower The Flag, Phil on acoustic and Shanks doing the slinky slide parts.

EDIT: Something is really funked up about Phil's Lower the Flag playing. It's.....TOO close to the studio recording like someone mentioned here. It's credited as him on Electric, Shanks on acoustic but almost feels reversed live.

Bon Jovi really don't need so many parts. For 22 years it was just 1 eletric guitar plus sometimes another acoustic guitar live.

How they are going to do when DB returns? Pre tape some acoustic guitar like they did with the keys now?

Look, I think it's allright pre tape some specifis parts of the song, sometimes it's necessary, but I can't understand doing that if you have a keyboard player to play and you can "unbored" your guitar player as well.

I noticed that too, I mean he was a little shaky in the verses but once he got towards the ending he seemed to become more confident and he just let rip when he sang "let me live again". Luv Can is somewhat lower than Blood in the Water so I understand that he'd find Luv Can slightly easier than Blood in the Water.

Yeah, I don't disagree the added parts aren't crucial make-or-break but I genuinely honestly think when/if they do these songs live Jon is back on Acoustic Guitar. He's made very clear he didn't touch a guitar and didn't do anything other than focus on the songs and singing them right. That's not the same situation as live-on-tour (I also don't think the songs that would effect things will be brought on the road but that's another story).

Phil's going to look bored regardless. None of these parts are hard to play or flashy or exciting. They serve the song and that's about it. You're talking about re-writing the part completely at this point.

Totally, things were way different in the past but we're comparing the way they used to do things like it's the same band. It's a half glass of water at this point with some food colouring.

I still can't get used to Shanks being a full time member of the band.

Agreed. Why go through the trouble of making Phil a full member but Shanks writes and performs most of the few solos on the new album. Granted I like what he's done with them but it's such a weird mixed message for Phil to be "in" the band but Shanks not.

I generally try to ignore his presence and in my mind I don't really consider him to be part of the band at all really. He's probably the only producer in the business who has decided to join a band he's producing. It's an odd case if you ask me, a producer who seems to be living some sort of wanna-be rock star fantasy touring and recording with a rock band.

I know I sound hash but really since Jon brought in Shanks there's been a steady decline in quality music & production and I'm not disregarding '2020' it's probably the 2nd album where the guy has done something right (HAND being the first). But as of now, it seems he's taken over lead guitar duties and X is becoming the equivalent to Bobby Bandiera, he's looking like he's the band's rhythm guitarist.
