Is there any way to listen to it from outside the US apart from using VPN? :-/

No. You need a VPN and it doesn't always work. Personally, I manage to connect once a week, but that is enough for me to record the live show since the free preview lasts 3 hours.

I dont even need the vpn but just listening on my iphone/ipad and in the car

I suspect its due to me using the app and not the website. Just tested again now without vpn and it played
To get the app you must have a apple id with address that is US based. Easy to create etc.
