That's just the research department of the shows doing their job I guess. Looking for Jon to offer new information for an exclusive or simply just to stir shit and see where it leads. In many of these interviews you see people refer to the band as just Jon as well. I think Kimmel called the documentary the Jon Bon Jovi story. You can also tell in some that the interviewer knows nothing about the band outside of the chorus of some hit songs.

No animosity you would have thought he would have attended a premiere or said something unless he’s been asked to stay quiet….
I had thought something similar. No one has seen the 4th episode - why? Maybe the big reveal?

Yeah, that's the most surprising part of the whole PR tour for me. It seems like every interviewer asks about (i) Jon's vocal situation; (ii) Richie relationship/status in the band; as if they're specifically directed to do so.

Episodes synopsis:

EPISODE 1 - NEW JERSEY vs EVERYBODY
Teenage Jon cuts his teeth performing in bars and rushing back for school; on the cusp of his 60th birthday, he reflects on the past 40 years and whether he can put on a show that cements his legacy.

EPISODE 2 - NOWHERE TO EVERYWHERE
The band becomes an overnight hit, but tensions escalate even as success burgeons for Bon Jovi. The cocktail of fatigue vs. ambition highlighted by a performance in Guadalajara Mexico could just be Bon Jovi's demise.

EPISODE 3 - BROTHERS IN ARMS
With renewed perspective, Bon Jovi introduces themselves to a new generation of fans at the turn of the millennium with a fresh sound and the same iconic reputation, until the band is ripped apart by Richie's sudden and painful departure.

EPISODE 4 - LEGENDARY
Following Richie's sudden departure, Jon slips into darkness. With the downtime during the pandemic, the healing time from surgery, and a milestone 60th birthday, Jon is left exclusively to reflect... has he become the man he was meant to be?

I wonder how many minutes the 90s will be given. Seems it jumps from the end of New Jersey to the release of It's My Life.

I don't think it's surprising at all. Throughout the 80's, 90's and right up to 2012 the majority the promotion for the band was Jon and Richie together. They were both the face of the band to a point, and then suddenly he was gone with no real explanation why. Sure there is the people that don't know that Bon Jovi is a band, but here in the UK at least I feel like the majority of people are aware. Richie was a much more prominent name than the majority of guitarists. For example Coldplay is one the the UK's biggest bands, but who can name the guitar player? Not me....I think he's probably more well known than Joe Perry or Phil Collen or any of those big band guitarists of the era, except for Slash and EVH.

I would agree, but even though I'd really like to see more details about 90's in general, I'm not sure I would press this issue as a director of that documentary myself. It needs to be shown somehow, but these 4 episodes revolve around biggest breakthroughs/turbulences, I like the concept. But drawback is that continuation through decades is not fairly represented.

Regarding Richie, I would say that by popularity, he goes in that Joe Perry bracket. Which is basically 2nd tier bracket behind Jimmy Page, Santana, Knopfler, Hendrix, etc. Sambora was also convenient excuse for lots of casual hard rock audience in Europe to say that he is the reason they listen to/appreciate the band (as a cool member), at least in my limited experience

Jon, David and Tico seem to be all over the place in the UK at the moment promoting the documentary. There was a premier of the documentary in London last night (I presume just the first episode?) and they attended. It's bizarre that Richie isn't even invited to these things, but is being used in the promo big time. Having said that Phil, Hugh, Everett and Shanks didn't seem to be there either. There's definitely a reason for Richie's silence/absence, but I don't think it's regarding any big reveal in the 4th episode...

I dunno, I can imagine that if he turned up on the red carpet with then they’d be barraged with reunion questions, and if he showed up separately they still would but with more of an ‘is there still drama’ tone. It’d draw focus in general, but take it somewhat away from the documentary and the album, I think. Maybe they want to keep their powder dry for after the release, for the putative tour or something.

Or maybe he’s just busy, I suppose!
