Default The 2024 mixes by Obie

https://www.siriusxm.com/player/epis...a-ae479445c2a6

Unfortunately I cant listen this episode as Im from Europe. So first of all I would like to thank the Youtube uploaders of the songs they aired on the show.

Some stuff that Jon said about these versions really surprised me. In particular how he claimed to never heard these versions. For instance the bagpipes on Stick To Your Guns, the harmonica and slide solo on Bad Medicine or the alternate mix for Only Lonely.

How is that possible when they are working on the box set? What does this implicate? That they are not working on it? That he is not involved so much? Or he doenst care? Or are these versions they think are not suitable for the box set? His reaction really raises lots of questions.

The box set, in my option, if it happens will be unreleased tracks, like the first box set was. Not alternate versions of tracks that have already been released. So while he may be listening to tracks for inclusion on the box set, these alternate versions would not be ones for considertion for that, but maybe for the deluxe editions of the albums that they seem to be slowly releasing.

Though, to be honest, I think he mainly just leaves it all to Obie.

Ok this makes kind of makes sense. But not quite.. as the first box set also contained demo versions of tracks that already had been released. But I would prefer a box set with only unreleased "new" songs anyhow.

It seems to me Jon just isnt that involved. Did Obie somehow refer to the new box set in the broadcast?

Yeah but only Always and Saturday Night (and Prayer as a hidden track). The other 48 songs were all tracks that were either unheard or b-sides, or different versions of b-sides.

True although we could add Open All Night (but its rather different than the Bounce version) and Last Man Standing (on Have a Nice Day a year later).

The amount of songs Jon has written, recorded and discarded greatly greatly goes over the amount that gets released. I wouldn't get so worked up over him saying that. Thinny is right in that the box set isn't going to touch alt mixes of song to that extent. Not hearing these songs are not hearing any songs are two vastly different thoughts.

Open All Night is a completely different song with the same title. I always forget about Last Man Standing because it's so different to the Have A Nice Day version.

Since these were broadcast last week (and the prior week), I bet no one has listened to these songs more than twice.... Bang! It doesn't suck to always be right.

Eh, ive played them in a Playlist about 10 times. I will still continue to listen to them. A few of them I wo t listen to again, but Bad Medicine, LOAP, SFTP, Always and KTF are fantastic gems.

Still listening to them loads....

I too have made a playlist, without the Jon and Obie chatter! Still really enjoying the different takes.
