Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist but, knockout sounds like it could be programed drum machines and loops entirely.... please prove me wrong someone!!

It is quite possible that they forget Tico in the credits, but would not surprise me they use program loops. Anyway I like the drums sound, it has a touch of 80s. as the chorus of principle, that reminds me I Need a Hero by Bonnie Tyler.

I have some experience with VSTi, which are pre-recorded samples of (let's say) drums and the final product that you can create only by playing some stuff on midi keyboards and a few clicks is amazingly close to professionally record a real drummer. And I am a rookie, imagine what Shanks could do with this software.

So yeah... it could easily be true!

In 2013 he said that he recorded all drums and percussion on the Bon Jovi albums. I believe him and I hope that nothing has changed.

Didn't I read somewhere that Shanks programs the drums for the track and then Tico is pretty much the last guy in the studio? So the drums are real, but that's not to say it's a track the band has played together.

Stupid that it sounds it is not unknown for a drummer to drum to a track and then have their entire performance replaced by programmed drums mimicking what they have played.

I'm almost 100% sure that's what happened on the last Aerosmith album and it could very well be the case on What About Now (and possible THINFS too). That way you get the human touch from the drummer but the production possibilities of the computer sounds too - in theory the best of both worlds. Although I have to say I hate the sound of the drum on the Aerosmith album.

I do not believe him. In a promotional interview they lie. I do not think that Tico play on all the songs.

I agree with this. I still think that he didn't play on This Is Love, This Is Life and No Apologies.

I used to think like you, before I saw this interview with Tico, which was recalled recently by Rocknation.

The drums in many recent Bon Jovi songs sound unnatural, and that's a fact. One thing in common is that all suspicious tracks come from the albums produced by John Shanks.

I think it was never mentioned on this board before, but Jeff Rothschild played on the drums in the "Nothing", as well as John Shanks played on the guitars, keys and bass, and Jamie Muhoberac played on the additional keys. Sambora did only a guitar solo and backing vocals. But as we all know, the song didn't made the final "Have a Nice Day" album. Even as a bonus track. Similar story goes to the box-set, where we got a lot of solo songs with Kenny Aronoff or Shawn Pelton on the drums. But Tico was talking about the proper Bon Jovi studio albums only.

Probably everyone here remember famous case with Alec, who actually didn't recorded bass on the most famous Bon Jovi albums like "Slippery When Wet", "New Jersey" and "Keep the Faith". Correct me if I'm wrong, but Alec - in opposition to Tico - has never said that he played in every song on the Bon Jovi studio albums.

Ever since I saw this interview with Tico, I believe in his words. You can call me naive or whatever you want to, but I'm not going to think that Tico is a liar without any evidence. I am closer to thinking that that was just the idea and producers execution to the final sound of these all tracks with unnatural drums.

Not necessarily. That was the musicians list on the Bo Bice Version of the song. I've played them back to back and at the same time, it's a different version of the song. I really think the drums, guitar and bass were re-recorded for Bo's album. The drums sound way different.

Also there's a GIANT interview from the engineer, and Shanks, of the WAN album talking about how there's lots of drum synths added to beef it up but it IS Tico playing. It's just super augmented I feel like his sound gets lost. My two cents is it's him on every track, but sounds so digital when everything is added.
