I guess the producer is the one who orchestrates that.

Production is just part of the game and is not the be-all, one stop fix to a finished record. There are many steps involved. Nobody has even mentioned mastering, where a sound can also sometimes, and does, get shaped. I wouldn't say that Shanks did all phases either - that is not how it's done. It's not always production's fault, that's all I'm saying, if a sound is what it is. I know this because I am an engineer

And yes, there is a lot to the process of getting a song 'done', let alone a who album that is a coherent piece of work.
