I usually love reading negative reviews and discussing with fans who see things different, but I’ve been feeling lots of apathy lately. Too many disappointments, this band and I have grown apart too much. I’m not one to look back in anger really, but I’ve been so close to moving on that it’s easier to remember why I fell out of love with this band.

They should have called it quits after the TC/GH tour (how much would have Jon loved that? haha). Roulette, Shot Through The Heart, Tokyo Road, I Believe, Santa Fe!!! I would have felt upset for a while, sure (or not, because I never expected another semi-decent album tbh), but at the end of the day very proud of being part of this, of a band that fought hard to preserve a legacy for generations to come and ended in a high note.

I miss the old band. Not the 80s or 90s one, the one we had 10 years ago. It wasn’t perfect, that’s for sure, but it was the band I fell in love with and I always valued every member. I naively thought this band would never break up. Sigh

I still love THINFS a lot. It even gets better with each listening and I can’t stay away from it for too long. But was it worth it? Double Sigh

If you're loving THINFS & can't stay away from it for too long - then it's worth it.

As much as I prefer the Bon Jovi era that gave us SWW to TD - if you hand pick tracks off the post 2000 albums and made a best of (Not Greatest Hits) - it'd be a pretty awesome album.

So for that reason alone, I'm glad they carried on.

Superb post even if I have a tendancy to be more forgiving and optimistic when it comes to the last 10 years. Certainly appreciate your willingness to express to us your thoughts and feelings.
The obvious decline of Jon's voice, departure of Richie, and the depleting lack of involvement and eventual end of Desmond Child as a co-songwriter has made me at times wonder if it was better for them to shut it down.
The last 5 years has reminded me of witnessing my all-time favorite sports team become a shell of themselves due to father time, loss of essential players(Richie), and injuries that changed the way they had to play(Jon).
We both agree that THINFS is a welcome comeback for Jon and let's just hope that carries over to the tour in 2017. Stay positive... I find it so refreshing to witness longtime members like Becky here on DC, indicating how this release has reestablished her faith in the band and Jon as an overall songwriter.
Cheers mate.

You got that right!!
I personally could come up with at least 30 tracks that I would put in my ultimate 21st Century playlist.

Agreed with everything minus the comment about Desmond. The decline of working with him has made them better I think.

Absolutely.
For me, it's turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

They should have called it quits in 2010 yet you love THINFS as it get better with each listen???

Worst post of the year!!! Keep Drinking!!! some people can't accept an ageing band... in 5 years we'll get the posts that states, THINFS is the album they should have called it quits for... and the cycle continues...

The reality is, I freaking love this new album... I've listened to it everyday since the Red Bank boot came out... Jon continues to reinvent himself... I embrace the changes... I'm even more pumped to hear these songs in an arena... Jon opening to Living With The Ghost with the arena acoustics... The tailgate, the party, the 33 year legendary history... I hope it never stops.... that's my opinion!!!

They should never quit making music and putting out records if they have something to say and want to say it. There's still plenty I've liked off every album. If they had jacked it in after the GH we wouldn't have had songs like Teardrop, Fingerprints, Devil's In The Temple etc...

Yes, live it seems Jon in particular isn't the force he was and maybe that is tarnishing their reputation somewhat, (although we have to wait for the 2017 shows to confirm it) but just ignore everything else and look at the albums and there's still reasons to be cheerful and thankful for their output.

If the tour stinks, don't see them. If the albums suck, don't buy them. I'd still want them to put out new music and make my judgement on it when it comes. I'm happy that we have 18 solid new Bon Jovi songs that exist now.

True, he's said he enjoys writing and recording more than touring. And this tour will undoubtedly have fewer dates. But he still has the goal of owning an NFL football team. I think he keeps making music and touring until that happens.
