I can second the part about the board being overly critical. I've seen it. The fact that most of the board loves the album, means it is good. Especially since the last few albums have gotten a lot of well deserved yawns on this board.

I know which song I Will Drive You Home reminds me of. It's You Can't Lose at Love. Same beat.

Does anybody know the story behind I Will Drive You Home? I love this song so much that I even woke up with it in my head this morning.

Also do you guys know who is the second voice singing at the end? I can hear Jon but I have no idea who has those robotic vocals.

You know what I just figured? Jon, the guys and the record company did a clever job of promoting this thing.

By doing those 4 shows and telling us the stories behind the songs, we're kind of more emotionally invested in and connected to it than we would be otherwise, because we know how much the songs mean to Jon. Also with the music videos: I remember some people only beginning to like THINFS the song (more) after seeing the music video. So painting these pictures and telling those stories certainly helped to make use like the new album (more).

Don't get me wrong, I genuinely think it's a great album, but some songs are typical Jovi songs, not totally by the numbers, but with a twist or modern element here and there (with the exception of Devil of course). It's the lyrics that really standout on some of those, the music not so much. Very good, but nothing groundbreaking (which ironically is one of the things I really like about the band, so nothing wrong here for me ) And while the production/mixing is better than WAN, it still sucks in some places.

Anyway, just my thoughts in the morning, drinking my coffee. Hope it make some kind of sense to anyone

Not really a review as I've only listened to the album in full once. First impressions are very positive. A few thoughts:

Living With The Ghost is one of Jon's best songs since the golden era of Bed Of Roses, Dry County etc. Although it's not AS good as those, it's quality puts it nearer that bracket than the more recent stuff.

Roller Coaster is a good song which for me is slightly spoilt by the chorus vocal.

New Years Day is fantastic but again I feel the vocal could have been better. There aren't many lines in it and I think the song would have been even better if Jon had really powered in the vocals.

The Devil's In The Temple is just sublime. My favourite by far. It reminds me of a modern day Fear. 3mins of rock n roll angst. I'd have opened the album with it.

Scars On This Guitar is great - I like how laid bare it is. Richie's backing vocals would have made this song special.

Real Love is fantastic. Jon's vocals make it. Very 80's sounding.

I Will Drive You Home is great until that ending. It sounds so robotic. Pretty pointless way to end a good song.

Obviously there's much more to talk about but I'll wait now until next Friday for a proper review.

On first impression I'd go out on a limb and say it's their most consistent album since TD.

I just read an article this morning on Forbes, about the new Bon Jovi book. It was an interview with the author and he basically said something that Jon completely gave over the management side of the business to Irving Azoff. I think that's why we're seeing this push in promotions, interviews etc. A fresh perspective after so long definitely helps, apart from the fact that Bon Jovi never embraced the social media.
