This House Is Not For Sale (2016) - Post Album Release Discussion

Having just been reminded that I gave WAN 8/10 on its initial release, I'm reluctant to get too gushy about THINFS.

But as of right now, I do love it. Like really really love it.

Quite a few people gave WAN good reviews. It surprised me, actually.

I guess this album shows, regardless of direction and current style of the band, JBJ is a much better artist than service provider. You can tell that on the last couple of albums he "delivered", quite literary, what he felt the customer needed. This time around, he actually had something to say himself. The faux-inspiration of Because We Can was pep talk, Living With The Ghost seems like catharsis (and I don't even particularly like the song).

And you can tell.

Just hope he takes a note from the experience and doesn't rush the next one out the door. Wait for inspiration.

Hey I still enjoy What About Now. That's What the Water Made Me, Pictures of You, Into the Echo, Beautiful World, I'm With You and even Because We Can all still get decent plays on my library.

I haven't listened to WAN in full, for years. Water is good, and I seem to be one of the few who likes What's Left Of Me. That's about it.

You are aware of the fact that Jon already performed the entire album on 4 separate occasions of which one was a live stream and most fans embrace the live versions???? even more than the album tracks on certain songs...

I absolutely agree. I don't think Jon really had anything to say on the last couple of records and was struggling as a song writer because of it. And therefore just churned out what he though the public would want. This time was very different...

I am finding the songs I didn't like are warming on me fast. I like every song, apart from Real Love and Knockout, the latter is garbage.

That has never happened on a post-2000 release for me. The songs I have liked on first listens (very few in the last decade) have remained my favorites, while the ones I dislike I now mostly hate.

I also agree with the notion that love, hate, or indifferent, it is hard to slam this album for anything. I think quality should transcend taste and be noticeable beyond what someone may or may not like. That's why I know Burning Bridges is a solid effort even though for me I would give it a 3 out of 10.

That guy from "Labor of Love" and "Knockout" videos is Levi Dylan, grandson of Bob Dylan and the son of Jakob Dylan (The Wallflowers).
