13.All Hail The King - 5. I want to like this one, but the chorus sucks.
14.Scars on This Guitar, Come on up to our House & Real Love - All are a 1. Boring and useless filler.

Your list and mine don't look similar at all (except for Devil's) lol

But I'm curious about one thing, what's up with All Hail The King? I'm I the only one who loves it? I've seen many people rate is as weak/boring/filler and I thought it would be better received here.

No, I LOVE All Hail the King! I find the lyrics fascinating. I just hope Jon doesn't spoil it by telling us who it's about! I like the mystery of it because you know it's about SOMEONE, but it's not clear who. It's got some lyrics that paint great pictures too. My friend Kelly and I have decided we think it's about Prince. The lyrics are close enough, but just far enough off that it's not certain. (Don't ruin it for us, Jon!)

Didn't he say it was about someone who helps volunteer at the kitchen? I may be wrong...

I really like it (live as I haven't heard studio version) and I really like the 'soouuulll' parts.

I saw your post about that and while I agree that knowing what inspired a song could sometimes be quite off-putting, I also think that if you like a song or it means something to you, that's as valid as the initial inspiration. As long as the song is not describing an event/person as it is, to me inspiration is a pretty wide and open word. I didn't care a lot about Happy Now before knowing the inspiration behind, so it didn't make me change my mind. I've always liked Bells Of Freedom and I've read that it was inspired by politics (and also that it wasn't), but I still like it the same.

All Hail The King could also be perfectly about the band, not about an individual. About the feeling of everything crumbling down around you and holding onto yourself, your essence, your strength. It doesn't matter anyway, this song and others from the album (Rollercoaster comes to mind, to me it's also about them) prove that you can have a universal lyric that's also meaningful enough to touch somebody and made them their own, which is what Jon always preaches about but clearly didn't translate into the last albums. This is why THINFS is getting much more reaction imho, not necessarily because individual songs are better than previous albums, but because you listen to a lyric that seems clearly about something or that it has been said what the inspiration behind it is, but it also means something to you, you make it your own. I know I sound like Jon and I'm not a fan of his pep talk speeches but it's true that the BJ songs I like the most are the ones that mean something to me in a personal level and THINFS is full of that.

Yes it is about the people in his Soul Foundation according to Jon. He said that in those small listening shows. And in fact at one show he got so choked up thinking about a volunteer he had to stop the song and start it over again. Sorry Becky if that's more information than you wanted to know, but that is what Jon said.

My friend Kelly is a MASSIVE Prince fan and I threw my Prince theory at her with the lyrics and she was like, "Ooo.. this could refer to this and this could refer to this" so we really went with it.

I also like your theory of it being about the band as a whole. It sort of goes along with the "rebirth" theme.

You have to remember that bands in the 60's, 70's, & 80's had the ability to be more original simply due to not having as much music in their genre and beyond they could end up sounding similar to.
Naturally bands now are going to sound like somome else. Rival Sons has more of a Zeppelin sound to me yet they do it way better than Whitesnake and copycats from the 80's who I actually dig as well.

Whitesnake were a Zep RIp off? Isn't that a bit far fetched - only one song tries to emulate Zep and that's "Still Of The Night". THe older WS albums are more mellow and kinda pub blues rock.
