No, i didnt say that. I dont think that review was biased. He doesnt seem to be a jovi fan, but his analysis seemed fair to me, even if i disagreed with most of it.

Sorry to say but the guitar work is absent, there is nothing brilliant. Maybe Devils but not genius, just sounds heavier than the rest. The merit of this album is Jon, who has shown me that even without the voice, the guy can sing with some inspiration.

It's like U2 replacing the edge with Eddie Van Halen. You can't replace one style with another and expect it to work even if the new guy is a good player.

Then don't hire him.

I agree with you about JBJ yet just disagree about the overall guitar work.
That being said, this is coming from a classical piano player which may not provide me with a proper point of a view on this subject.

Could you elaborate on that?

I think what he means is that it could have sought another guitarist that fits better with the style of the band these days.

In my opinion, Jon does not care too much about the guitars on the album, is such an obvious thing, Phil is with them because they need a replacement Richie for the tour, but it is completely expendable in albums, because Jon does not care about this.

Here's the link to another on the fence, 3 star review from The Guardian.

It seems for the most part, their albums receive this type of rating.

May be a bit biased coming from the Asbury Park Press yet here is real positive review. Enjoy.
