Default Why did Jon reject Richies new songs like "I Pray"?

Richie told in several interview he presented "I Pray" to Jon. I was just listening the song again and I think it could have been a great comeback for them. Its a positive and upbeat track and Jons voice would fit and his input could have lifted the song to an even higher level.

I think it - together with some of the other new Richie tracks - could have worked out pretty well and put BJ back on the map. But apparently Jon was not interested. Why is that?

Wasn't it the fact that Forever was already written and they were in the process of recording?

I mean, I'd take I Pray over Legendary any day of the week, but would it really have done any better commercially? I'm not so sure. It would probably have had about the same impact. Maybe a little more as it would have been marketed as a reunion track following the documentary.

I was thinking about the duets album too and I was thinking that it would be wierd for some random singer to duet on We Made It Look Easy, as that is so obviously about the bands rise. This would be a perfect song for Jon and Richie to duet. Of course it won't happen and we will probably get Taylor swift haha

This is how I feel too. The idea that any song would launch them back into popularity is a pipe dream at best. No song can be that good without proper marketing and I feel like a reunion would be the closest chance to getting ears back on 'em. Quality of the song would be second.

But also, this is is a very loaded question. Are you asking why Jon rejected Richies songs or why Jon rejected Richie coming back because A would never happen wothout B

True. Well the songs Richie recently presented are very good. I think thats hard to deny and I bet Jon heard their potential too. So yeah apparently they are not ready for working together for other reasons. Bad timing? Personal matters? Egos? Its all just speculation.

The thing is, I think they still got it, they could still make this killer album. Richies songwriting is still top notch and Forever was a bit better than the previous ones. And their synergy together is something special, so its a bit frustrating when the potential and the will to work together is still somewhere in the air. Both hinted about the possibility. But instead we got a mediocre BJ album and a handfull of promising Sambora songs in digital format which most people dont even notice.

Sustained commercial success is a question, but I think any Bon Jovi track with Sambora on it would bring renewed interest and excitement to the group and it probably would’ve definitely lasted a little bit longer before it dropped out of the top 200. A lot more 80s babies would have checked out the track than another unremarkable Bon Jovi album with 3 new guys they’ve never heard of. Matt B made it clear on X over the weekend that the organization is mostly interested in new listeners via the remixes and not keeping the older fans happy so they have no motivation to push a reunion. The reality is that Jon does not want to work with him again.

They wish they could pull Taylor Swift. It’s going to be a B list artist.

Also, isn’t Jon’s whole story in TYGN that they actually didn’t make it look easy? it does kill me to think of how good the most tracks could be with Sambora’s vocals on them, but it is what it is.

Hah yeah I know, it was a joke referring to another comment made here a couple of days ago...

While I agree with that, I really don't think Matt is really a spokesperson for the organisation. His post about "don't be the old guy" successfully managed to alienate a good chunk of their fan base and got massive backlash on X. He eventually removed all of his replies to Mitch Lafon, so I think he got his wrists slapped by the organisation, and that isn't the first time...

The whole notion that these remixes will bring in new fans is just nonsense...

Sure but that's not the question. You can put out any song with Richie's name attached if he's back in the band due to the marketing wildfire that comes with it and it will probably do better than anything. I don't think any of Richie's new songs are good enough to rocket the band back to the charts but I don't think a song good enough even exists. I adore Waves, it wouldn't matter.

We can agree on that. But I don’t think it’s ever going to happen, unfortunately
