Default 170 000 € fine for speeding

A few days ago a finnish millionare got 170 000 € fine for speeding. He drove 80 km/h in an area where the speed limit is 40 km/h.

If he would have done the same thing, for example, in Sweden the fine would have been only 210 €.

And that wasn´t the 1st time. 3 years ago he had to pay 39 000 € for speeding (speed limit was 120 km/h and he was driving 200 km/h) and also lost his drivers license for a short period.

well it's all relative. if you fine him what you'd fine someone on the minimum wage he wouldn't even blink i mean whats a couple of grand to a millionaire? its like pocket money.

so why would he stop speeding if he could get away with such an easy fine to pay considering his wealth?

on the other hand, fine him a massive amount even by millionaires standards and he might think twice.

To add a bit about finnish fines...ordinary guy got fined 17400 Euros for spreading bootlegs. Even though court decided that he didn't do it to gain profit.

yeah but when converted to real money (aka pounds sterling) it works out at about 7 quid and a pint.

I agree. The minimum fine is 6€ if you have no income. That is multiplied depending on the severity of the crime. Speeding 42km/h (he was doing over 80km/h in a 40km/h zone) counts to 42 fines, the amount of one fine depending on your income. The guy has so good income that his fines ended up to 170000€, when someone with no income would've gotten 252€. I think it's fair. It's not like he couldn't afford it...

It's standard fine, only the amount is relative to what you earn. His income is so big that his fines were bigger too.
