Socialism is government owning the means of production, no? Like factories and industry? I don't know if schools fit into that definition. It is certainly an attribute present in many social welfare states. But like welfare, you can't just cut it off all at once. That's impossible to do.

Let's go with my 10grand a year per pupil figure. Refund it. You don't think that poor families could afford to send their children to a private school with $10,000 extra dollars per year, per child? Like I said, I think the system is so ingrained that it's impossible to erase, but it can and should be changed, and the private sector can and should be a major part of that restructuring.

Just looked up my old school's fees: http://www.kingedwardsfoundation.co....caleofFees.pdf

For a full year, the full cost is £8,100 but this is only paid by families earning more than £77,000. If the family only brings in £19,000 the fees are just £35. Any family with a kid smart enough should be able to afford it.

A little bit of socialism there.

interesting. i know some schools up here offer bursaries for competitive entrants but i'd be absolutely shocked if public schools have more spent per pupil than private.

King Edwards Schools are run by a charitable foundation that also happens to own half the real estate in Birmingham, so i'd bet the average spent per pupil is at the top of or above that scale. Any commercial monies would have been ploughed back into the schools.

No idea what the equivalent figure is for state schools.

if she had thrown that bitch out on her ass, as big a moron as she is, she would have gained alot of respect from me and other corners.

it's just a shame she chose to ignore it for fear of alienating her base support.

[QUOTE=Adrian;886386]Nobody's enforcing it. Who's going to start leveling charges when they're all guilty? [.quote] Then surely it is no longer relevant?

That's capitalism for you - hopefully they'll learn their lessons. But by punishing the businesses unfortunately you punish the people more. Another example of the rich getting richer at the expense of the less well off. The culpirts won't care - they've made their millions They should consider prosecutions though.

It is still in effect a redistribution of wealth.

Adrian

They'll probably use that extra $10k to pay their mortgage. Private school is a luxury. And by refunding it you will give more back than the proposed tax cuts.

To be fair to her she did say in her next sentence that people should be generous and compassionate. I don't think she has the experience to deal with something like that.

she's a grown woman, she's "possibly" going to be the 2nd most powerful woman in the world in a weeks time.

if she can't turn round and say excuse me that behaviour is not acceptable, security get her tf out of here, why exactly is she in the vp position?
