the whole second half was a joke. why do england think that sitting on a 1-0 lead is good enough? 45mins to hold out against arguably the best team in the world is a hell of a long time. vassel/owen rooney/heskey pretty much an admission that you're going to try and hold out.

on a better note, croatia and switzerland aren't going to cause anybody any trouble. the croats were dreadful up front. as long as we keep an eye on yakin and frei, switzerland will be a walkover too.

Beckham was terrible by any standards especially his own.

I'd have pulled him off long before Owen..

Saying that. England still played a good game and held them out well till they got complkacent at the end so you can't take that away from them.

I wanted to say the same. Plus, it wasn't a bad shot by Beckham.
The player usually can't win from the point, only the goalie can. A penalty is supposed to become a goal, so as a player you can only lose (=when you don't make it a goal). No one shouts at the goalie there, he can only win when he makes it a save.

Cause & effect my good man. & that wasn't a chance decision, by the rules of the game he should have gone.
As should've James surely......Consistent refereeing is good refereeing in my book.
Yeah, they should both have been by the rules of the game - but with Zidane having the last kick of the game it wouldn't have mattered.

Also - we should have put someone on the post!!

I think the red would have changed a lot actually. Maybe France would have still won, but it would have been a different game.

I don't think 2 goalies could have stopped that pen kick!
