No i think we should have pride in our country for a different reason not because of her!!!

Why do I have to remember this? I know it. Really, I only stated what it is like here. I didn't comment on it.
Actually, I quite like that the British or the Americans celebrate their anthems. But it is almost impossible here. Just like it is rather unusual to put out the flag on national holiday or.. at all (with the exception of sports).

and why is that?
I would say it's because of our history. It is not that we are not proud of our country, we had just never been taught or encouraged to show it publicly because of our dark epoch back then.
If you watch the national football team singing the anthem, well they do sing but I feel there is always some sort of shame in their faces as well.
because you'd be called a nazi that's why
Yeah, same here - you'd be call a "facha" which comes from the word "fascist". When your country has had a time you don't want to remember that it's so close in time (and sometimes space too) you go to the other end, that is, anything patriotic is bad like Spunky said.

It makes sense for me and in fact it's not because of that. I just happened to be born here - it wasn't *my* decision and as such it's just luck (or disgrace as Jim would have it) so why take pride in that? I've never understod those things (patriotism and such) to be honest, but then again it might be because of the aforementioned reason.

Now I can see why someone would take pride in Rule Brittania. Okay, the lyrics are a bit TOO much but the music is just perfect (well, perfect for this kind of thing :P). In fact I used to think *that* was the British National Anthem,a nd not God Save the Queen/King.

I would never not do business with someone because of who they chose to vote for. That is their choice, just like I had my choice. I may not agree with them, but that is just not a reason to stop doing business with someone. At least in my opinion. As for standing for our national anthem, I always do. It's not a matter of being proud of our current leaders, it's a matter of being proud of what our country has gone through to get here. Lots of people died so I could have the freedoms I have right now. Standing during a song honoring those battles is the least I can do.

Well, at the end of the day one of the privileges of living in a (nearly) free market economy is people can chose to do business or withhold it with whoever they choose… it does sound pretty petty though… Sadly as there is so much bigotry around I guess there would be a world of problems in society if everyone started wearing their political allegiances/orientations etc. on their sleeve.

As for Jim magnanimously proclaiming he will stand for “Flower of Scotland”, I’m so impressed… you must be a man of such deeply held principles and heartfelt respect for other peoples political views… In fact, after ever old firm game I’m sure you make it your business to hug every Celtic supporter you can find and invite them over your house for port and cheese. When you start throwing about words like “despise” when referring to others beliefs you may as well just keep your arse on that seat when Flower of Scotland starts up… I may not stand for “God Save the queen” in all but exceptional circumstances… i.e not to embarrass English friends at important ceremonies, but my level of respect would certainly extend to choosing my words about unionist principles quite carefully to avoid offence. Still, we are lucky enough to live in a democracy so I suppose we are quite at liberty to tell each other what kind of tosser they are.
