Exactly. The teachers aren't allowed to do anything. If you use any kind of force, even just hold the kid down, you will be sued. That's why the police was called in.

As for ugly_queen_from_mars, you obviously have no experience in teaching. Come back and talk after you've taught a bunch of screaming and kicking kids.

The punishment in the original message in this post inhumane and unnecessarily cruel, but other than the reason of the sentence, how does it differ from the other death penalties given by countries like China or USA?

I'm against all death sentences, no matter which country is involved or how they are executed. But the cruelty of this one and especially the reason (as already stated by you) are enough to make me sick. I just can't believe how some people still think women are inferior to men and deserve a bigger punishment. That's really beyond me.

i don't know.
i wouldn't like my kid to go to that school again either.
as for the 'right way' i can't know exactly what it consists of but when i was going to school i learned good behaviour without the police.

mouse i can't be equally outraged by a kid's behaviour! next you'll tell me that kids should be allowed to vote because they have a developed personality and conscience like adults or something.
and i maybe not experienced with kids but i can tell the difference between a five year's old and a teenager. even if that kid wasn't acting normally, being handcuffed and thrown into a police car was way out of limits imo.
and as you can read in the article about what they could have done "The district's campus police should have been called to help and not local police, he said.

Bessette said campus police routinely deal with children and are trained to calm them in such situations."

You don't have to be an adult to know that kicking and punching your teacher along with trashing an office is wrong. That is what this situation comes down too. Most kids know their boundaries at that age, because if they didn't, all kids who are five years of age and younger would be beating up their teachers. But you really don't see that all too often. Why you ask? Because they know better. You really do underestimate them.

As for what could have been done, hindsight is 20/20.

I think the reason was the only outrageous thing about it. Other than the reason and method, death penalty is death penalty.

I'll just point out that it isn't Islam to blame- I'm pretty sure the religion would condemn it - it is a culture issue!!

the initial story is disgusting but as a handful of people have said. it's the interpretation of it that does the damage.

the west of scotland has alot of aggro between catholics and protestants stemming from Ireland and it comes to the fore when rangers and celtic are playing, which they were yesterday yet a bunch of mates and myself supporting both teams and being involved in both religions to varying extents had a brilliant day out and were even discussing how we hate arseholes that hate each other just because of the colour of strip their wearing or what's on their cross. religion doesn;t suck, people interpreting it to their own negative needs sucks.

but anyways. ugly queen you need a serious reality check. the system is so far weighted in favour of the kids these days that they can get away with just about anything and they know it. pour example' as our french friends would say. my brother works in a high school kinda drop in centre for the kids to go and study or chill out etc... a couple of weeks back a kid that had been banned form the room for being a ****wit tried to come in, my bro told him to disappear and started closing the door to the room, at which point the kid tried to barge in and hit his head on the door. total accident and brought on by the kid himself not behaving but he starts screaming that he's getting his mum up to the school and blah blah etc... he didn;t but if he did there was a very real possibility that my brother could have been sacked and black marked on disclosures because of this kid acting like a total prat.

i find it interesting that you have no answers as to what to do. if the woman even held that kid until she calmed down she would have been sued and struck off as a teacher. a kid at 5 years old should know enough respect and discipline and that comes form the parents, who surpr9isngly enough aren't taking responsibility (does anyone these days?) but are blamign the school for doing pretty much all they could do.

and I agree with maria, whenever I act like a dickhead (even now) my parents let me know that I'm being a moron and whatever happens is my own fault. you have less responsibility or accountability at 5 but you still have some and it was the same back then.
