too sad to talk about this... but let's go.

ETA = Terrorist Organization
Al Qaeda = Terrorist Organization

which one is responsible? hard to say. some clues points to ETA, others to Al Qaeda. at least, it doesn't matter: who is gonna pay for the 200 dead people and their broken families? who is gonna make them come alive?

there's 1 more thing i want to mention: ETA are terrorists. don't believe the stupid thing about independece. the only religion they have is dead. if u want more explanations on this, pls ask me, but 4 now i'm not gonna spend more words in those bastards

Well, I don't think they can say it for sure because they don't have the evidence to prove it. But they are saying that they are the main suspects. The bad thing would be saying it for sure and then finding out they were wrong. It's a very delicate issue and can't be talked about lightly, I guess.

Basque terrorist group ETA is still the prime suspect in an investigation into the Madrid rail bombings, and there is no new lead pointing toward al Qaeda involvement, Interior Minister Angel Acebes said on Saturday.
Both possibilities were still being considered in the inquiry which was also open to the possibility of collaboration between different extremist groups, he told a news conference.

"Of course you can't rule out at the moment that terrorist organizations of this type have coalitions, reach agreements, help each other," he said when asked about rumors of ETA contacts with radicals in Iraq.

He gave no evidence to back that up, however.

"We have no new clues about that terrorist group (al Qaeda). We're pursing both lines of inquiry intensely," Acebes added when asked about Osama bin Laden's group.

The bombings on Thursday claimed the lives of 200 Spaniards ahead of Sunday's general elections.

Acebes reiterated that the government's first line of investigation was still ETA."We don't think any Spaniard can be surprised that the priority is the terrorist band that has spent 30 years operating in Spain," he said.

He's right! Plus with elections coming tomorrow and ETA having many frustrated attempts at doing something in the previous months, I would be *very* surprised if it wasn't them.

Btw, I was just thinking that Al-Qaeda usually uses kamikazes, just like in 9/11 and in these bombings the people who did it made sure they left their backpacks behind them and walked away.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

MADRID, Spain - Spain's interior minister Saturday announced the arrest of five suspects in the Madrid bombings, including three Moroccans.

The other two are Spaniards of "Hindu" origin, minister Angel Acebes said.

The five were arrested in connection with a cell phone inside an explosives-packed gym bag found on one of the bombed commuter trains.

The suspects "could be related to Moroccan extremist groups," the minister said. "But we should not rule out anything. Police are still investigating all avenues. This opens an important avenue."

Yes, I was going to post too

Spain announces arrest of 5 suspects in connection with Madrid bombings

www.chinaview.cn 2004-03-14 03:54:27

MADRID, March 13 (Xinhuanet) -- The Spanish government announced Saturday the arrest of five suspects, including three Moroccans and two Spaniards of Indian origin, in the bloody bombings that hit trains in the capital Madrid on Thursday.

Interior Minister Angel Acebes told the press that police and judicial authorities will determine how much the suspects were involved in the attacks, noting they would act with caution to avoid complications during the investigation.

He said all the arrests were carried out in Madrid late Saturday after a bag containing an unexploded bomb at one of the attack sites was recovered.

"This is a very good line of inquiry, " the minister said, adding "Things are advancing in the right direction."

Acebes, who had earlier declared the Basque terrorist group ETA was the prime suspect, refused to say whether the arrests pointed more toward involvement by Islamic extremists. "We must not discount anything," he said

Btw, its sad how some people are using this for the elections of tomorrow. Using the pain for their interests

Don't believe everything you read is correct. The news here is reporting that ETA is still the prime suspect and that the group claiming it was for Al Queda has lied in the past about their involvement in terrorist activities. The US are looking into it to see if what this group says is true, but they don't believe them just yet, contrary to what you have read.
i haven't read anything but i watched the news and mainly correspondences from madrid and the spanish media.
but i thought that president bush in a speech was kind of implying that al kaeda (sp?) was behind that terrorist act.
