hmmm, it's just a name, that's all!

i mean basketball could be named hand-ball, it's pretty similar, only a totally different goal, so why isn't it called like that?

tennis could be named whackball, and so could baseball or squash be called. why aren't they called like this?

what does tennis or golf mean anyway?

a marathon is called marathon because of the historic greek event, but it is still called like that, even so it has nothing to do with greece anymore in the first place, so why is it still called like that?

i could go on with stuff like that, cause you seem to like stupid questions about names of games.

I don't think anyone knows StoneDeaf. I think the original american football was more like rugby - it then evolved to what it is today. Do they use their feet more in rugby?

Too bad you've got no sense of humor though.

"Soccer" is a term coined in the UK. It is an abbreviation of "Association Football". There are several different forms of football: Rugby Football, American Football, Australian Rules Football and of course Association Football to name the big ones.

That is all I could find so far.

"Soccer" was a term invented in England in the 19th century as a derivative of the official name "Association Football" to distinguish it from Rugby Football. Both were normally called football and the habit was to call them soccer and rugby. Eventually soccer just became football and rugby just became rugby.

This makes a bit more sense.

It is the association Mouse, not the sport & whichever fool started calling it rugby football is also wrong.

I just copied and pasted, but whatever the case, Soccer was not a term invented by Americans.
