yeah mate listen i'll back the US up on most things and in most cases but ur way off the mark thinking the BBC is biased in any way or form.

as i said in a previous thread. the BBC is legally obliged to be fair and neutral politically and the whole gilligan/ kelly incident was A) not even the bbc as a whole just a small part of it and B) was not anti american in the slightest.

Maybe you should check the dictionary under "nazi" to find out what it means. I'm pretty sure KRB has nothing to do with The National Socialist German Workers' Party. Nor with neo-nazis.

I so don't understand where this statement is coming from??? Yes, there are probably people that haven't been to other countries, but they may very well have been to the other side of the US, a distance equivalent to the distance from Spain to Moscow! That is travel in itself. If you've ever been to Tennessee and New York, you know what I mean.

Most people I know (in fact I want to say all adults) have been to other countries. Canada is only 3 hours away - people go there skiing. Mexico must be the most popular place for spring break.

Most people in Europe (northern parts) only travel to soak up the sun - not much beach pleasure on Germany's north coast - rather cold - besides it only takes 4 hours from Munich to Italy's coast. In the US, people go to California or Florida to soak up the sun, distance wise it is usually a heck of a lot more than 4 hours by car.

It all depends on how you define travel. :P

The things about the US is that it's an "extremist" country, in the way that what's cool about it is really very cool, and what sucks about it really sucks a lot. It knows no moderation, that's why it often looks or sounds ridiculous to us Europeans, or Brits, who are much more moderated on just about anything.
It's just that lately it feels that there are more and more stupid things going on and being said.
France, among others, is laughing it's ass out on the Janet incident and the way it's being blown out of proportion... two or three years ago we've had naked pics of our President taken by paparazzis and no one gave a damn. So the government taking actions, enquiries being carried out, tv shows being edited because of a boob poping out is just ridiculous.

As for the words from Ryan calling Krb a nazy, or krisyluvsjovi's:

they pretty much add to Krb's examples of why the rest of the world is either scared or laughing.

yeah, exactly, it depends on how you definie travel. traveling to the other side of the US isn't what i mean. it's the same country, it's the same culture (well not exactly of course, but more or less), it's the same language, the same people...

while i can understand that "normal" people don't travel too much, i really can't understand why somebody can become president of the USA when he had only twice been outside his own country! that's something that could never happen over here!

to travel for me means to learn other languages, to see other cultures, to see different oppinions and different people. otherwise you believe what you see on tv about the other countries and thats usually bullshit like "the BBC is anti-american"...

the first step to live in a world with more peace, is to learn and understand and acccept different cultures. 80% of the american politicians have never been away from the USA for more than 3 days (and probably they only met some other politicans etc., never met the normal people of the other countries), that's why they obviously don't have a clue about their culture etc....

That's pretty bad generalization. I live in Northern Europe and have been to 7 different countries and only one was a vacation to "soak up the sun". You can't deny the fact that most Europeans have travelled more around the world and seen more countries and cultures than the average American.

Probably, but the reason we don't may be just for the simple fact that we can't afford it. I would love to visit Europe, but lets face it, it isn't cheap. I am a middle class citizen with a rather large mortgage payment and the last thing that I have is extra money for travel right now. I am not saying this is always the case with Americans as I can only speak for myself. My reasons are not for lack of wanting to travel but for lack of funds to actually do it. I haven't even visited all of the places around the US that I would like to see yet.
