I'm not religious at all though I was raised as a catholic. My husband was of a different religion but it was not important to him either so there have been no conflicts there. For us, Christmas is a family and friends holiday. We make sure to see people that we don't see too frequently during the year due to busy lives. Lots of friends and family come to visit - it's a good thing that I have a big house. My sons are adults now and they have friends that I have known since grade school and they come by to visit also. We are all very musically oriented so there is always lots of music being played (sometimes competing music) and lots of eating and cooking and drinking. People sneak around and whisper and hide presents from others. It's kind of a zoo and sometimes I run away to my office (like now) just to get some quiet time but it's all alot of fun. Basically it's a celebration of friends and family.

My girlfriend is a muslim, but she kind of celebrates christmas. The thing is, the majority is not religious - it is hype. + She gets to open her presents early! It is more a cultural thing now, with the religious side being overlooked by many.

I do my best to keep a religious side to Christmas...I seem to remember that I traditionally read the Luke account of Jesus's birth before bed or something to that effect. Probably won't go to church, but that's not because we're not religious, we just think it's better to spend time together as a family than time standing and listening to some guy (this week it'll be the really boring and annoyingly political pastor) preach about peace on earth, human fellowship, etc and so forth.

I don't have a problem with however anybody else wants to celebrate the holiday. In the words of Thomas Jefferson, "...if it doesn't pick my pocket or break my leg..."

I wasn't raised in any religion and I'm not religious, but I just LOVE Christmas! It's my fave holiday along with my birthday :P

Christmas has got fack all to do with religion anyway, except paganism, so the question of religion and christmas is pretty much irrelevant

I guess Christmas means lots of different things to lots of different types of people.

As a christian it means a lot to me to celebrate Jesus birthday . Its up to others to make decisions about why they celebrate what they call christmas, hopefully people will feel loved and not lonely....

On a slightly digressed note, who the **** is that in your avatar goose? it looks liek a teenage mutant ninja suicide bomer????
but anyways

I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again. I dont believe in God in the religious sense. I have my own idea of what God is and he isnt some bearded geezer who made mountains and smotes us at will but i still go to church on christmas morning no matter how hungover merely as a sign of respect but on other forums there;s a disgraceful amount of animosty from "Christians" aimed at people who are celebrating Christmas but somewhere down the line have mad enegative comments about Jesus of Christianity which just kinda amused me.

Love thy neighbour is apparently OK to ignore providing it's directing towards Jesus' birth.

explain this to me: who exactly are you respecting by going to church on christmas morning?

I am truly curious as people always talk about respect this and respect that but I doubt they really understand the meaning of that word....
