I'm not religious at all though I was raised as a catholic. My husband was of a different religion but it was not important to him either so there have been no conflicts there. For us, Christmas is a family and friends holiday. We make sure to see people that we don't see too frequently during the year due to busy lives. Lots of friends and family come to visit - it's a good thing that I have a big house. My sons are adults now and they have friends that I have known since grade school and they come by to visit also. We are all very musically oriented so there is always lots of music being played (sometimes competing music) and lots of eating and cooking and drinking. People sneak around and whisper and hide presents from others. It's kind of a zoo and sometimes I run away to my office (like now) just to get some quiet time but it's all alot of fun. Basically it's a celebration of friends and family.

Whew..thanks for doing the typing this time, Kathleen. As a non-religious guy who was raised Catholic...you said what I was going to.

explain this to me: who exactly are you respecting by going to church on christmas morning?

I am truly curious as people always talk about respect this and respect that but I doubt they really understand the meaning of that word....
I'll say! That is the question.."who are you respecting." Jesus? Just in case it was all true? Even so..Jesus didn't say nothing about you needing to drag your hungover ass out of bed to church.

I haven't been to church in years. Frankly, the last couple of times...I found the environment entirely too serious and couldn't hold it together as far as fits of laughter. I've freed myself of any sense of obligation to church and ..... lord I can breathe at last.

So why you going?

It isn't very respectful to go to church completely hungover, just because you think (feel?) you have to - isn't it...

Anyway - I don't really care about Christmas, I was raised without celebrating Christmas, without Christmas trees and without presents; so I don't know any different... To me the 25th of December is the birthday of my best friend of elementary school and that's it really. The only thing is that Christmas is about the only day in the year that me, my parents and brother get together for dinner, but nothing special and that could have been on any day of the year really...

I think Christmas is way too overcommercialized anyway, people sometimes seem to forget what it's all about when they're spending weeks in advance for buying the most expensive presents they can afford for their friends and family...

Nah i;m not religious (even though i was brought up a catholic) I just think Christmas is a great time of year. Most my best childhood memories were of Christmas, if I ever have kids il try make it as special for them as it was for me. Ok it might be commercialised, but what the hell isnt these days??!!!
