Anyone a teacher or doing a pgce?

I started teacher training back in september, and am now in my second placement school for the whole of this coming term! I'm looking forward to it but am also v.nervous! Its gonna be a mad 3 months! Anyone else in my shoes?!

i'm waiting for replies from institutes for doing a pgde which is really the same thing.

ive been doing a placement i organised myself in my old history department just observing so ive got a good idea of what it involves and the curriculum because you'll know yourself how important that is when applying to the gttr.

ive not thought too much about the actual placement if i get onto a course but ive pretty much got my class presentation i'll need to do if i get an interview sussed out

was in your shoes last year! dnt worry about it! just be natural makes sure all ur lesson plans are done out to perfection and that you know what you are going to do when your visits come! and dont worry if you only get a C in it because as a first year theres not much more expected of you.

pgce = postgrad certificate in educaition.

you can only do one year in it, after your degree...

a pgce is a one year post grad course. there is no 1st year like a primary teaching or teaching with another subject normal degree so you're expected to be doing it and doing it really well in that year as you only get 2 placements before you're qualified.

lol thank god i choose to do my course over a 4 year timeline lol! i have a friend doing his p.g.c.e. at the minute but its extremly hard to get into over in this country. most people have to go to england to get into it and also get a job! its like 1 in 3 teachers over in england are irish

Funny you should say that, as one of the teachers in my second placement school was in my class in uni! Its a small world!

The PGCE is harder than having a full-time teaching job IMO. You are working with a few different teachers and you are expected to fit in with their individual teaching styles. They expect you to plan your lessons on paper, which in reality very few teachers do. One of the teachers who I was with spent three or four hours every sunday marking and checking notebooks. Because I was teaching her class this meant I had to do this too. I never do this now. Its an inefficient use of time. My PGCE was much harder than my first year of teaching because you are constantly being watched and observed. Now I can just plan most of my lessons in my head 10 minutes before they start. I couldn't do this during my PGCE. My supervisors wanted to know what I would do in advance. The PGCE was the best decision I ever made though. I never have to live in that shit country again, and I can teach in an international school anywhere in the world. I would advise you to do this too.

Its a really busy year! I'm hoping that from next year it will settle down, as its consuming most of my time these days.....will it?!
I'm getting impatient, I cant wait to have my own classroom and not have teachers observing me all of the time!
