a pgce is a one year post grad course. there is no 1st year like a primary teaching or teaching with another subject normal degree so you're expected to be doing it and doing it really well in that year as you only get 2 placements before you're qualified.
My mates doing a 2 year pgce I'm pretty sure, because its combined science

Depends on what subject(s) and what age(s) you teach. Now I teach at an international school which has students from pre-kindergarten up to grade 12 (North American system, although I am British trained). I would say that most teachers in the school are busier than me. I teach mostly math and some science from grade 7 through grade 12. The busiest teachers are the primary school teachers who teach almost every subject to their class. However, not being observed all the time will automatically mean that you are less busy once you start full-time teaching. You wont have to plan and prepare as much.

if it's combined it would be longer because you're technically working on 2 courses.

i should really check out how it works in england considering i might have to go to newcastle to do mine.

krb once you have the pgce can you teach most places across the world with it considering you meet their criteria or do you need to do any other training or courses?

Most international schools require that you are a qualified teacher in your home country, and that you have at least two years experience teaching. That is all. The second requirement is sometimes negotiable.

just got my letter in from jordanhill. i have an interview for the pgde at the end of the month

i also found out that by the time i finished my application and got my referee to actually do my reference my 4th choice uni filled up for history applicants but if i got to the point where my 1st 3 had already knocked me back i'd probably be too disheartened to bother going to newcastle to try out.

i'm going to do my interview presentation on the berlin wall so i can take in my photos, piece of the wall, passport with checkpoint stamps on it etc... just to really sell myself. what did you guys do yours on?
