If you've build up a good reputation as a debater with good well build arguments I can understand you caring about losing your amount of posts, since you also lose a bit of your credibility of your reputation.

If you're building up a big post total just to have a big post total you're pathetic, as no one will take your opinion serious and you have zero credibility.

I don't see the relation there. Following your logic, if you base your opinion of a person on their amount of posts you have as little credibility as they have, as you're both looking at the same thing instead of at the actual contents of the reply.
