Back in the old days, people who came to England, USA, etc. had to work really hard to get in. Applications, credentials, the entire nine yards. I was talking to my old landlords who came here back in the day from Italy. He had to fill out an application and wait until he was accepted into this country. Then he had to have someone sponsor him who already lived here. As soon as he got here, he had to get a job in order to survive. This is the problem with today's world. People searching for a better life from foreign countries are searching for a way not to work. Not all mind you, but a great deal. It isn't like the old days, and people are abusing the privilege, but alas it is our government's fault for catering to them. So I totally understand what Jim is saying and why he is so frustrated.

you think that's easy... someone wakes up one morning and says "oh today i'm gonna be rich!" i wonder why people in somalia still starve....
poor people or poor countries aren't poor because they chose to be like that but because the european/american capitalism doesn't let them to do otherwise. of course the US and the EU are strong enoung to take advantage of a country that has something to give them (see oils in iraq) and let its people to starve... when people in a country live under those circumstances can't rebel and can't stand up for their rights so everything works fine for the capitalistic system.

Yes, but how did we get so strong in the first place. By working hard, that is the point.

mouse many people are frustrated and saying that the immigrants are taking their jobs etc and all these have a base but we can't blame anyone because happened to be born in a poor country and then he was forced to immigrate because he couldn't live in his country (due to political or economical reasons). if a country's covernment is letting more immigrants in than its whole system can support it's completely the government's fault.

The problem that I have is not about them taking jobs, as much as them not working and milking the system for everything it's worth. I guess I feel like I work everyday to support myself in order to have a good life, and some of these people come to this country specifically not to work, but instead milk the system for all it is worth. It is my government's fault, I know, but as a middle class working individual, it is frustrating. I never fully understood the magnitude of it all, until I was out of college and had to earn a living for myself.

If they want to come here and earn a living great, but if they want to sit on their arse do nothing, this is what I have a problem with.

Of course not, but we didn't become strong overnight. Besides, there are too many poor people here that need help, nevermind the rest of the world. I have always said that the USA should help their own first, instead of butting into other countries affairs.

I never told you how powerful and wealthy I am.

i really don't know what happens there but greece has many immigrants and i can speak about my country. and the truth is that they work in as many jobs as they can to be able to survive and that's why some specific working class in greece face unemployment problems. and of course people complain. but the government (and each government) needs them that's why the immigrants keep coming. they're people who are being used and people whose human rights are constantly being violated. and after all i don't think that anyone's happy about leaving his family his home and his country to go to a strange and hostile place.
