So why shouldn't they get any say & continue to be treated as outcasts??

An NHS in which they are paying taxes to help run should surely reflect their needs?
hey mate if they want halal meat cos its in their religion then i dont have a problem with that. If leaders of their Mosques r tryign to get crosses removed from churches then its a completely different ball game.

what would happen if i openyl said hey tell u what that star over on the synagogue offends me lets try and get it took down or that crescent moon on the mosque is against my religion lets get rid of it?

no ones denying Muslims have made big contributions to the world but what does their religion have to do with any of that? maths, physics etc... we're all people no matter what beliefs we hold.

would u say Einsteins theory of evolution or steven hawkins theories or whoevers theory on whatever are christians theories???? no

You're saying exactly what I am. who has the right to demand how we celebrate our religious festivals?

The above was more in response to Dawns post. I agree that we should also be allowed to celebrate our religion. Unfortunately this country is becoming less & less religious. Many of the ppl celebrating Christmas don't even know why.

Also - religion is a major part of these ppls lives. We can't just ask them to drop it. This country would be a lot worse off without their contributions.

you can't tell Muslims or any other non Christian religion in UK or US not to follow it just int he same way none of them can tell us to stop doing our things ie saying Merry christmas.

I mean it's such a petty little thing. if that offends u u should be at home watching the antiques roadshow not up on the soap box.

Dunno about down south but the MSP's christmas cards up here didn't have merry christmas on them for the discussed reason so it's not just our friends over the pond that it's happened too.

if u had read my post above u would know that the MPs in the scottish parliament ordered christmas cards (oops sorry festive cards) with personal messages on them for their constituents) when they recieved them, the people who had ordered merry christmas complained when they read seasons greetings or whatever only to be told that the word Chrsitmas is offensive to other religions so couldn't be used.

5% of UK is Asian apparently, let me tell you it doesnt feel like this in a lot of towns!

So for 5% of the population we are now to change UK food menus in hospitals/schools, when we cant even afford to keep wards open !

Point, if we start providing precise food menus for apparent minority religions where will it stop. Remember that these religions are already provided for under the vegatarian dishes.

I think its ok to provide for all religious taste as long as they pay for this separately. So we can out more money forward to the up keep of hospitals and schools.

This may be true for your country, but the US is NOT a christian country. I don't know what the predominant religion is in the US, it may very well be christian, but that does NOT make this country a christian country.

With respect to the references to muslim countries and what they would do for you, I would like to know how you know that? Have any of you lived in a muslim country? Don't base your opinions on prejudice and bias. Unless you have lived or visited long enough a country of another faith, don't pass judgement as to what they would do for you. I have not been in Pakistan or Afghanistan, in fact the only muslim country I have been to is Turkey. I only visited, but I can tell you that the people were so extraordinarily friendly and nice to me that I was ashamed to think of how their people are treated in other countries (Germany for example). The people I have met - strangers mind you - bent over backwards to make me feel comfortable and happy.

I don't know about paying for certain food, I think those are petty problems. We face much bigger problems these days than to bicker about what kind of food we are serving in a hospital.

Again, to say happy holidays instead of merry christmas to someone you don't know is purely good manners - nothing more and nothing less.

I am really surprised to find that some people get offended by that.
Ive lived in muslim countries, Ive lived all over the world which is why I can speak of the difference in how other countries behave.

US is not a christian country !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL I think you will find it is!

ah, no it isn't. In the US, religion is separated from the state. Thus, all different kinds of religion is welcome and none are singled out. Why would you say that it is? Because a lot of people are christians? That does not make a country a certain faith.
