Default Arrogance

I saw in the topic 'Guardian Questionnaire' (http://drycounty.com/jovitalk/viewtopic.php?t=31162) that a lot of people filled in "arrogance" as an answer for the question "What is the trait you most deplore in others?".

Why is that? What makes arrogance such a bad characteristic? If you're such a cool person, aren't you allowed some arrogance? Isn't arrogance a subjective thing? And isn't something like cruelty or dishonesty way more to 'deplore' first time I even heard of that word) than arrogance? What bad does arrogance do to others?

Enlighten me.

Aloha !

When someone thinks a person is arrogant it's often just because they're jealous of someone being better at something than themselves. That makes them hate such a person, jealous of not being able to be as good as the other.

I didn't do the questionnaire, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. When you know a lot of stuff and share it, people often think you're a nerd. When you tell people about your knowledge you're arrogant. Why is that? Because you're able to answer things others can't? Again, people despise it just because they're jealous.

Sebastiaan

But why is sharing your knowledge immediately arrogant? Or is it being mistaken for arrogance?

Arrogance is good if you can back it up.

My thoughts exactly. But why is it often seen by others as a bad habit?

there is nothing good about arrogance!! Ever!!

arrogant
adj : having or showing feelings of unwarranted importance out of
overbearing pride;

Arrogant people view themselves above others and I find that deplorable. Knowledge and sharing knowledge in a general way has nothing to do with arrogance. Though, some might view it as such ... it just isn't.

Most arrogant people only 'think' they know more than others, completely blinded by their selflove, they cannot fathom that others might know just as much or more.

Can't stand arrogant people and have zero patience for them.

But when is arrogance really arrogance? It's such a subjective thing - some people really do know more than others.
