It is about HOW you (not literally) use your knowledge. The HOW is what makes other people perceive it as arrogant, or not.
Knowing more isn't arrogant, showing off with it is.

very good questions Captain ... showing off is arrogant (and arrogance is shallow)... being smart is never arrogant ... but if you wanna dig a lil bit most of the arrogant ppl you have ever meet were far from knowing alot ... to be smart and intelligent (and also often have big knowledge ) should imply to be humble and to NOT CARE about being recognized as smart (this is the essence of being intelligent and wise not the essence of having a great knowledge though .. the best teachers are always those who are not showing off their knowledge because showing off make everybody wanna leave and don't listen )
