I can think of several other worse things, like dishonesty, disloyalty. Is arrogance really *that* bad?

But when is it showing off and when isn't it? If you're insecure about some things, I'm sure you would think way sooner that someone's showing off when this person's just trying to share his knowledge. People (often women, I've noticed) get intimidated by other person's knowledge and they often call that other person arrogant. I just don't understand that.

Then again: is showing off your knowledge really *that* bad? I really can think of worse habits, worse characteristics than that.

It is about HOW you (not literally) use your knowledge. The HOW is what makes other people perceive it as arrogant, or not.
Knowing more isn't arrogant, showing off with it is.

very good questions Captain ... showing off is arrogant (and arrogance is shallow)... being smart is never arrogant ... but if you wanna dig a lil bit most of the arrogant ppl you have ever meet were far from knowing alot ... to be smart and intelligent (and also often have big knowledge ) should imply to be humble and to NOT CARE about being recognized as smart (this is the essence of being intelligent and wise not the essence of having a great knowledge though .. the best teachers are always those who are not showing off their knowledge because showing off make everybody wanna leave and don't listen )

ah ah I don't know i am just reply to your question by my convictions disloyalty is bad but when you are arrogant you are also somehow dishonnest because you manipulate ppl ... I think a lot of ppl bad points are all mixed ... the need to show and teach other everything about everything is arrogance IMO .... because all this is just perceptions and assumptions ... if you consider the ppl around like ppl who need your help to live you are arrogant and you certianly are not even able to help anyone not even yourself .. this is how I FEEL arrogance not the truth about it there is certainly no truth about about anything

Not in the sense of cruel or so. But I think it is one of the worst things amongst the people you don't really know. I don't care too much if someone I don't know very good is dishonest or disloyal to me in one way or the other. But people that show off do annoy me.

Because that is what it is, be it intentionally or unconsciously.

But if it's just a performance, these people aren't really arrogant. You're just annoyed by the people who seem to be arrogant and who seem to be showing off.

If someone uses their knowledge in a situation where it is required then that is not arrogance, nor is it arrogance when someone corrects someone elses faults. If someone randomly talks about things of no interest to anyone else just because they can then I don't find it arrogant, more annoying, lol

ARROGANCE is to use your knowledge when it's NOT APPROPRIATE NOR REQUIRED or in a tone that doesn't let anyone around wondering is this arrogance or knowledge ... arrogance stinks and you never hesitate to recognize it ...

People being arrogant regarding their knowledge doesn't bother me, as they obviously know more than others but aren't intelligent enough to just stfu

Well, maybe that's my 'problem'; I don't seem to recognize it. And even if I do, it's always from people who really know what they're talking about. They're fully aware of both their knowledge and about the fact others don't have them. And they're right. I simply can't see anything wrong in that.
