Do you mind black bars on your TV screen when watching a movie? Do you think they are necessary? Why, why not?
I don't mind them. Maybe a little at the beginning but I soon forget all about them. Necessary? Dunno

Do you realize when a movie is shown in correct/incorrect aspect ratio?
When do you realize that?
I realise when it's incredibly obvious. A large set where you know the characters are talking to someone you're supposed to be seeing and things like that. Otherwise, I don't see it.

Do you you get upset when a microphone appears on top of the picture?
No, I really don't.

That's about all I can say and I don't think it helps much anyway

You virtually answered it yourself. If you don't see the other person, it means the original picture is much wider than what a TV screen is capable of. So the only way to see the picture in its original width is to put black bars on top and bottom, sometimes covering 50%. You see a smaller picture and I can see why people don't like it, but you get to see the whole picture which is way more essential for the perception of a film.

Sometimes I do - I'm not looking for it like some people seem to be doing judging by the amount of goofs of that kind that appear on the IMDB. When I do I really don't care. If it's a good movie I forget all about it. If it's a bad movie then I couldn't expect otherwise.
